Inner Stadt is the best area to stay in if you are visiting the city for the first time because of its proximity to all attractions.

Some of the attractions that are close by include the old city wall Ringstrasse, and the former residence of the Hofburg family. The residence is now occupied by Austria’s President and the government.

You can find a hotel in this area with ease that suits your budget. There are luxury hotels like the Sacher Hotel and several other affordable boutique hotels.

The oldest restaurant in Vienna opened in the 15th century is still running; you may want to drop by and enjoy a delicious Austrian meal.

Leopoldstadt is the next best area to stay at in Vienna, it is close to Innere Stadt and is separated by the Danube Canal. To get to either side you can use one of the several pedestrian bridges connecting the two neighbourhoods.

This area has one of the largest parks in the country, the Prater public park sits on 1,500 acres of land. This is also one of the largest neighbourhoods in Vienna and has abundant touristy sites.

The neighbourhood has the famous Wiener Riesenrad Ferris wheel perfect for families, couples or groups. There are several great restaurants here for delicious meals and beer. If you’d like to spend time at the beach, then head over to the Danube Canal.

When travelling with family and in need of a quiet place that is not crowded, Leopoldstadt is the area to find your accommodation. There are several affordable boutique hotels close to public transport. Most of the hotels have beautiful views of the Danube Canal.

You will be able to access most historic sites easily by using the subway and buses that are convenient and reliable. There are plenty of cool cafés and bars here and is considered to be a neighbourhood with creatives.

3. Landstrasse District- artsy and cultural neighbourhood

Landstrasse is west of Innenstadt and is considered to be Vienna’s cultural district. It is also home to the famous Viennese artist Hundertwasser’s.

There are interesting artworks in this neighbourhood worth your time such as the Kunst Haus Wien and the Hunderwasserhaus. His works are exhibited at Kunst Haus Wien together with temporary works of other artists.

Located in district 3 of Vienna, it is a bit far from the city centre but has its perks such as the beautiful Belvedere Castle and its gardens.

The castle is made up of two castles. Lower Belvedere and upper Belvedere. Inside you will find a collection of local and international artists such as medieval art and art pieces from impressionist Gustav Klimt.

Margarten is a middle-class neighbourhood and many Viennese refer to it as bobo because it has a bohemian vibe. Unlike most neighbourhoods in Vienna, there is more art nouveau architecture which is attractive.

Staying in this area of Vienna is best because of its varied accommodation options and closeness to top attractions like Naschmarkt and Café Deml. The advantage of staying here is that it is close to the city centre.

This means that you can still be able to access top historical sites and museums. Use the U-Bahn for your transport, it takes less than 20 minutes to and from. It is well connected to neighbouring areas and is close to Wieden and Mariahilf.

For some good dining experience and shopping, this is the neighbourhood to stay in.

Being a multicultural neighbourhood, you will find Turkish restaurants, Asian noodle bars, vegan restaurants and quirky shops.

5. Wieden

Wieden is in Vienna’s district 4 and is located in the south of the centre. This area was under the Soviet region for at least 10 years.

There is a lot of music-related events that happen in this neighbourhood. It is, therefore, best for those that love the beautiful music scene of Vienna. You can visit St. Charles Church that hosts classical music concerts.

Accommodation choices here are way cheaper than in the other neighbourhoods. The transport system here is also well connected so you can move with ease.

The art nouveau townhouses here are home to Naschmarkt. This is one of the biggest markets that sell fresh organic produce and baked goodies.

There are several cafes in the market too for breakfast and other meals. If you love to shop, then visit the flea market on weekends and grab locally made products for keepsakes.

Food and accommodation are affordable in Wieden compared to the other neighbourhoods.

One landmark you cannot miss while in Wieden is Karls Church with its beautiful baroque architecture, while there you may want to watch the classical concert held in the church.
