Top 10 Interesting Facts about America’s Next Top Model TV Series

America’s Next Top  Model reality TV show, which has been airing for more than 17 years, has competitors you’ll want to cheer for and those you’ll love to loathe, as well as dramatic situations that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The nicest part of watching this show, though, is seeing unknown hopefuls emerge from obscurity and develop into successful models with bright futures.

It was developed by Ken Mok and Kenya Barris and is also executive produced by Tyra Banks, who debuted in May 2003. It was broadcast semi-annually until 2012 and then annually starting in 2013. Before UPN and The WB merged to form The CW in 2006, the first six seasons (sometimes referred to as “cycles”) were shown on UPN.

Weekly additional guest judges were welcomed to the panel for the first eighteen rounds. Bryanboy served as the panel’s representative for the public voting throughout cycles 19 and 20. Public voting was simply displayed on-screen at call-out for the twenty-first cycle.

America’s Next Top Model has 9–16 episodes per cycle, and there were initially 10–16 competitors. In each episode, one competitor has been eliminated, though in rare instances a double elimination or no elimination was decided by consensus of the judging panel. Contestants were scored weekly on their overall appearance, participation in challenges, and best photograph from that week’s photo shoot. Early in the season (often following the first or second elimination in the finals), makeovers are given to competitors, and about two-thirds of the way through the cycle, a vacation abroad was planned.

Here Top 10 Interesting Facts about America’s Next Top Model TV Series

1. The television show America’s Next Top Model was not scripted

America’s Next Top Model has been one reality television program that does not use a script, despite the fact that a lot of reality television is covertly scripted. Instead, producers rely on editing to highlight specific plot points or invent drama when none exists. The candidates must act organically in order to keep the show engaging.

2. The participants were kept a secret from the general public

America’s Next Top Model candidates were fully locked off from the outside world while the show is being filmed. To prevent them from leaking spoilers, they were prohibited from using phones, the internet, and even television. Additionally, this was done to heighten the surrealism of the event and torment the participants’ emotions, which increases the likelihood of conflict.

3. Models that were eliminated were given access to a therapist

It can be stressful whether or not you win a competition show like America’s Next Top Model. After being removed, models were granted access to a therapist after being kept concealed from the public, suffering from sleep deprivation, and being constantly videotaped. The therapist, who could be on a call following each elimination, assists the recently eliminated model in de-stressing and coming back to their true self.

4. Some competitors had to do auditions, while others were scouted

Most hopefuls that audition for America’s Next Top Model do so in a similar way to how hopefuls for American Idol do. Before being allowed to see the judges, participants were reviewed on many occasions and have a meeting with the producers. Instead of finding models through auditions, some were discovered by scouting them on the street.

5. Even after signing up, contestants were permitted to leave the program

For candidates, who were permitted to leave their jobs if they become too difficult, it was far easier to depart before their contracts expire than it was for judges, for whom it can be challenging to do so. No matter how challenging the competition becomes, competitors rarely decide to quit because doing so would mean abandoning their ambitions and dreams.

6. Psychiatrists assessed the models

It was very obvious that being a contestant on a reality television program like America’s Next Top Model may be a tremendous shock to the system and have negative effects on a person’s mental health. To help the producers determine whether or not they will truly cope with being on the show, participants were tested by psychologists and counselors before moving into the loft.

7. The competitors were required to provide their own food

Although the candidates on the show get to live in luxurious homes and wear designer clothing, they aren’t precisely given everything they require. In actuality, there is no catering for the performance, so the models are in charge of acquiring and preparing their own meals. The models pay the costs, but the runners really buy the food off of their shopping lists.

8. Judges were not informed of what occurred in the house

During filming, the judges only meet the participants once a week, and they were also kept in the dark about what happened in the house when they were absent. Although the participants were permitted to converse with the judges during tasks or photo shoots, they were cautioned from developing close friendships with them and disclosing home secrets.

9. Sometimes, a day of filming could last up to 22 hours

This was the amount of time it could take to complete a day’s worth of filming, despite the fact that the show’s episodes were nowhere near 22 hours long. Previous candidates had admitted that they spent the majority of the time being filmed and were not even permitted to leave the loft unless it was for filming.

10. The contestants’ portrayals were manipulated during the editing process

Given that America’s Next Top Model is a reality TV program, it should not be surprising that the content has been substantially edited to present each candidate in a particular light and produce a particular result. Participants have little control over how they are portrayed, whether as the villain or perhaps the funniest person in the room.
