Maya Khabira Rudolph is a comedian, actress, and singer from the United States. In 2000, she joined the NBC sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live (SNL) cast, and she later appeared in the films 50 First Dates, A Prairie Home Companion, and Idiocracy.
Rudolph co-hosted the variety show Maya & Marty with Martin Short and starred as Ava Alexander in the NBC sitcom Up All Night. She voiced several characters in the Netflix animated sitcom Big Mouth, including Connie the Hormone Monstress, for which she received Primetime Emmy Awards in 2020 and 2021, as well as Bless the Harts for Fox.
She was nominated for three Primetime Emmy Awards for her role in the NBC fantasy comedy series The Good Place (2018-2020). Not only that, but she won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her portrayal of the United States senator and vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris on Saturday Night Live. While Harris campaigned for and was elected vice president, she continued to play the role.

There aren’t many things that frighten Maya Rudolph. The list consists primarily of black widow spiders, stand-up comedy, and walking into a room full of strangers and having to introduce herself.
She was bitten by a black widow spider while on a girl’s trip with her SNL pals to celebrate Ana Gasteyer’s 50th birthday while getting a massage.
2. Her family is musically gifted
Maya Rudolph is a singer too! She was born to singer-songwriter Minnie Riperton and composer Richard Rudolph in Gainesville, Florida. Her mother was African-American, and her father is white-Ashkenazi Jewish. Sidney Rudolph, a philanthropist who once owned all the Wendy’s and Rudy’s restaurants in Miami-Dade County, Florida, was her paternal grandfather. She grew up listening to her mom sing and took lessons herself. She can also play the piano and flute.
Her great-grandfather was born in Vilnius, Lithuania, changed his surname from “Rudashevsky” to “Rudolph,” and was a founding member of Congregation Beth Shalom, a Conservative Jewish synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania’s Squirrel Hill neighbourhood. Teena Marie, an R&B singer, was Rudolph’s godmother.
3. Maya Rudolph earned a bachelor’s degree in photography
Maya was born in 1974 in San Francisco, but moved to Philadelphia when she was 3 years old. She went to The Episcopal School of Philadelphia. Rudolph graduated from Crossroads School in Santa Monica, California, in 1990, where she met Gwyneth Paltrow and Jack Black. She was a student at the University of California, Santa Cruz, where she lived in Porter College. She received her Bachelor of Arts in photography in 1995.

Maya Rudolph is ‘married’ to Paul Thomas Anderson. They’ve been together since 2001, have four children, and Maya refers to Paul as her husband. In a New York Times profile, she stated that after they had children, she stopped referring to Paul as her “boyfriend” and switched to “husband” because “people know what that means.” It means he’s the father of my child, I live with him, we’re a couple, and we’re going anywhere.”
Unlike some couples, these two do not appear on red carpets and start licking each other’s literal mouths. They prefer to keep details about their personal lives private.
5. She appeared on Amy Schumer’s stand-up comedy show

Maya is very close friends with Amy Schumer, and she has appeared in several episodes of her show “Inside Amy Schumer”. Maya has also appeared in several episodes of “30 Rock” as Lina Heydendal. She is good friends with Tina Fey, who created that show. Maya has made some very memorable appearances on Saturday Night Live, and she even hosted the show herself for two seasons.
6. Maya Rudolph has bagged a couple of awards
She was nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her work on SNL. She won the award in 2007. Likewise, she was also nominated for a Golden Globe Award in 2011 for her role in Bridesmaids. Maya has won several other awards, including a SAG Award and two Critics Choice Television Awards. She was also nominated for an Oscar Award in 2013, but did not win.
7. Maya Rudolph is a member of a band

Rudolph was a backing singer (1995-1999) and briefly a keyboardist in the band the Rentals, with whom she toured, before joining Saturday Night Live. She can be seen in the music videos for “Waiting” and “Please Let That Be You.” She provided backing vocals for the songs “Barcelona” and “My Head Is in the Sun” from the album Seven More Minutes.
In 2004, she collaborated on a song with Rentals frontman Matt Sharp, which included a cover of Tegan and Sara’s “Not Tonight.” Triumph the Insult Comic Dog (Robert Smigel) recorded “Together in Pooping” and “Little Roundworm” with her on his album Come Poop With Me. She and her friend Gretchen Lieberu are members of the Prince cover band Princess.

Rudolph provided a memorable comic take on Harris three times in sketches that parodied Democratic presidential debates and town halls. Harris was portrayed by the actress as the fun aunt, who will give you weed, but then arrest you for having weed.
Rudolph was nominated for an Emmy for her portrayal, making her only the second SNL guest actress ever to be nominated for a role based on a politician!
10. Maya Rudolph is the brand ambassador for Seventh Generation
Throughout 2017, comedian and actress Maya Rudolph has served as a brand ambassador and star for cleaning brand Seventh Generation’s product line, appearing in three commercials.
She voices and appears in three advertisements, which range from her using the rinse-free disinfectant to clean her children’s toy dinosaur, to using laundry detergent to get clothes spotless without blue goo, to smelling baby smell-free nappies.
