The United States of America is a safe haven for several people across the world, but not all cities in the US are the safest to stay in. Since the United States was founded, there has been a lot of crime recorded. As time goes by, several cities in the United States are becoming safer.

However, there are some cities that have become extremely dangerous for both the locals and visitors. The peak of crimes in the US was at its peak between the 1970s and early 1990s. These rates of crime went down after 1992, with the trend of rising and falling going on in 2015, 2018, 2019, and 2020.

The rate of homicide in the US continues to be high with four cities in the United States being ranked among the 50 top cities with the high crime rate in 2019. Crime in the cities of the US has cost the country approximately $4.9 trillion as by 2021 with hopes of lowering this amount of taxpayers’ money. Even though crime is on the low, we are going to talk about the top 10 dangerous cities in the US.

1. Memphis, TN-MS-AR

Memphis TN-MS-AR is a commercial and cultural hub of the Mid-South which covers ten counties in three states, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Arkansas. The city has a total population of 1,324,108 people as per the census that was carried out in 2010. In 2011, the crime rate was on the low in Memphis but rose by 2022.

The city experienced a 21.6% increase in property crime and a 75.5% increase in vehicle thefts. Data from the Memphis Police Department revealed that there were 5,380 incidents that involved guns. This was a 110% increase in gun-related crime in the city from the numbers recorded in 2011. However, there is still hope to make Memphis safe for visitors and residents.

2. Anchorage, AK

This is the largest city in Alaska located in the south-central part of the state on the Cook Inlet. The city is known for its cultural sites and being an attractive area for several tourists. As of 2022, the crime rate in Anchorage was 46 per one thousand residents in the city.

This city has been ranked as the second most dangerous city in the United States of America. The possibility of being mugged off and getting stolen from is high while in Anchorage. There was a total of 3,284 recorded violent crimes, 9,955 property crimes, and a total of 13, 239 crimes.

3. Albuquerque, NM

Albuquerque is the largest city in the state of New Mexico which sits in the high desert. This city has the modern Downtown and the Old Town which is filled with historic adobe buildings and other attractive sites. Homicide cases have been on the high in Albuquerque city which has always been worrying.

There were 120 reported and investigated deaths in 2022 in Albuquerque city. Gun crimes have been on the high with shootings happening in public places too. The homicide rate in Albuquerque was calculated at 21 per 100,000 in 2022.

Gun violence spiked considerably in the BCSO’s turf, and areas of Bernalillo County that were initially safe. In 2022, 86% of homicide cases were reported in this city.

4. Lubbock, TX

Conway is another city that is located in the state of Arkansas and the county seat of Faulkner County. It is in the most populous Metropolitan Statistical Area of Central Arkansas. The crime rate in Conway was 50 per one thousand residents in 2022.

The chances of being a victim of violent and property crime in this city are one in twenty. Reported violent crimes were 762, and 2,465 property crimes in 2022. 20 murder cases were reported, 16 were rape, 97 were robbery, and 629 were assault. 369 were burglaries, 362 were motor car theft, and 1,734 were theft.

6. Shreveport-Bossier City, LA

Shreveport-Bossier is a city located in the Bossier Parish in the northwestern part of Louisiana in the US. This city is the second-most populous city in the Shreveport-Bossier City metropolitan area. The total population of the city was 62,701 in 2022 which was a rise from 61,315 as of 2010.

In 2022, the murder rate in the city was more than three times the national average and a 25% increase from before the pandemic. The per capita rate of the crimes was 21.1 per 100,000 residents. This made the city a dangerous area to visit.

8. Salt Lake City, UT

Salt Lake City or Salt Lake is the capital city of Utah which is its most populous area. The city is in Salt Lake County which had a population of 200,133 in the core of the Salt Lake City metropolitan area as of 2022.

Violent crime has increased by 6% yearly in the city. The overall crime in the city was at a high in the first part of 2022 but declined towards the end of the year.

9. Springfield, MO

Springfield has a crime rate of 80 per one thousand residents making it one of the cities with the highest crime rates in the US. 2,651 were recorded violent crimes and 10,940 were property crimes as of 2022. 2,093 were as a result of the assault, 19 were murder, 200 were rape cases, 339 were robbery, burglaries 1,543, 7,960 were theft and 1,437 motor cars were theft.

10. Corpus Cristi, TX

This is a city in Texas located on the Gulf of Mexico. Corpus Christi is tucked into a bay and the beaches are sheltered by two islands, Padre and Mustang.

Corpus Christi came down from seventh to last place on the list of the most dangerous cities in the US. The violent crime rate remained stable at 7.4%, while property crime fell 7% year on year to fewer than 30 occurrences per 1,000 people.

The list might be containing the most dangerous cities in the United States of America, but the authorities are working hard to make them safe. There is no worry about visiting these cities as they provide the best experiences to tourists and locals.
