American serial killer Mark Goudeau is also a kidnapper, thief, and rapist. Goudeau harassed people in the Phoenix metro area from August 2005 until June 2006.

He and a brother were detained on November 7, 1982, for raping a young woman, but no prosecutions were brought against them. In 1987, he was accused of trespassing, and the following year, of driving while intoxicated.

He was accused of kidnapping a woman in August 1989 and raping and beating her mercilessly. He asserted that the rape and attack were the work of two other men and that she voluntarily engaged in oral sex with him.

Goudeau was convicted of all Baseline Killer killings and other associated offenses on October 31, 2011, with the exception of three counts of robbery and one count of kidnapping. He was found guilty in November and is currently being detained on death row at Arizona State Prison Complex Eyma.

1. His Father was Verbally Abusive, and Drinking Ran in the Family

He was the second youngest of thirteen kids. Goudeau was born in 1964. According to one of Goudeau’s siblings, despite his strict father, the family was friendly. However, other siblings claimed that their father had a history of drinking and verbally abusing them. He was 12 when his mother passed away in 1976.

4. He Received a Sentence of 15 years for Kidnapping and Raping a Woman

Mark was accused of kidnapping a woman, forcefully raping, and beating her in August 1989. He stated that she consented to oral sex with him and that two other guys were responsible for the rape and attack. He received sentences of fifteen years for the kidnapping and twenty-one years for a robbery in 1990.

3. Goudeau was Dubbed the Baseline Killer

Goudeau first gained notoriety as the Baseline Rapist. This was after Phoenix Police reported that a light-skinned black man was raping young girls as young as 12 at gunpoint close to Baseline Road.

Goudeau acquired the nickname “Baseline Killer” in the spring of 2006. This was after authorities connected him to a string of homicides and armed robberies.

4. He is Believed to have Committed Nine Counts of First Degree Murder

Goudeau is suspected of nine counts of first-degree murder. The victims were eight women and one guy. The killings were extremely gruesome, with the perpetrator frequently shooting the victims in the head, even though the incidents were initially unrelated. It was frequently reported that the perpetrator tried to pass for a homeless person or a drug addict, as well as using other disguises like a Halloween mask.

It was suggested to the Phoenix Police Department task team in August 2006 by parole officers from the Northeast Parole Office that Goudeau resembled the Baseline Killer’s sketch.

5. Mark was Detained in Connection with the Rape of Two Phoenix Sisters

In connection with the Baseline Killer investigation, Mark Goudeau was detained on September 4, 2006. He was arrested in relation to the sexual assault of the two Phoenix sisters.

The sisters were attacked on September 20, 2005, at a park in Phoenix. One of the two was clearly pregnant.DNA evidence gathered soon after the crime’s occurrence connected Goudeau to the assault.

6. Goudeau Suddenly Approached the Sisters with a Gun in his Hand

The two sisters said at the trial that Goudeau suddenly came up to them with a gun. They were ordered to take off their clothes and were dragged into some adjacent bushes.

According to the victims, Goudeau sexually raped the younger sister while aiming his rifle at the pregnant belly of the other sister. The women were advised not to stare at Goudeau’s face throughout the assault, according to the prosecution.

 In addition, they claimed that he used dirt to wipe away saliva evidence from one of the women and that he was wearing a condom when he attacked one of the sisters.

7. Mark Goudeau was Found Guilty of a Total of 67 Felony Counts

Police suggested that 74 offenses be brought against Goudeau by the prosecution. This comprised 10 counts of kidnapping, 5 counts of sexual assault, 3 counts of attempted sexual assault, and 9 counts of first-degree murder.

The additional charges included 13 counts of serious assault, 12 counts of serious assault 4 counts of attempted heinous assault, 3 counts of indecent exposure, 9 counts of sexual activity with a minor, and 3 instances of sexual abuse.

Mark Goudeau was convicted of 67 criminal counts in all. This included all deaths ascribed to the Baseline Killer. He was convicted on October 31, 2011.

8. His Targets Were Women

Goudeau primarily targeted women, with the exception of Chao Chou. With the exception of Sophia Nunez, who was murdered in her house, he frequently abducted his victims from public spaces. He took them somewhere remote nearby and then shot them in the head with a medium- or large-caliber pistol.

Goudeau allegedly utilized a disguise or deception to get away with some of his crimes. This was by hiding his identity by donning a Halloween mask, approaching his victims and pleading for a ride, or even feigning homelessness or drug addiction.

10. He Received a Sentence of 1,634 years for all the Charges

Goudeau was found guilty of 19 different crimes and was given a 438-year sentence before being condemned to death nine times for the murders and 1,196 years for the remaining 58 offenses on November 30, 2011. 1,634 years are totaled in this sentence.

In October 2015, Goudeau filed an appeal for his nine death sentences. An appellate lawyer argued before the Arizona Supreme Court that Goudeau ought to have been tried independently for each of the murders and certain other crimes. Mark Goudeau was found guilty of more than 60 additional felonies and nine death sentences in June 2016 by the Arizona Supreme Court.

Mark Goudeau was a very dangerous and violent person who carried out horrible crimes against his victims, according to the verdict that he received.
