Houston residents are kind and openhearted. It has history but also the convenience and exciting atmosphere of a bustling city.

It’s more than just a tourist destination, it’s an epicentre for engineering, technology, cancer treatment, and art.

Downtown is also a major destination for entertainment and recreation.

Montrose is one of the major cultural areas in Houston notable for its hipster culture, art scene, food scene, and nightlife. In the 1980s, it was the centre of the gay community.

When summer comes to the  Space City you have to do your stuff in the heat here are our favourite ice cream shops in the Houston area.

Hanks is a Houston staple and a favorite amongst Houstonians the interior of the place is a real throwback  especially the photos and TV

The ice cream is made in house and is straight up dope!  The banana pudding is such a great concept and their most famous flavour.  

You can also not go wrong with butter pecan and the strawberry shortcake flavours.  Well, can you go wrong with any flavour of ice cream?

They use real whole ingredients like full wafer cookies, hunks of cream cheese, sliced strawberries, and generous amounts of bananas.

Hank  Wiggins, the parlour’s namesake, was once called Houston’s king of homemade ice cream. Today, his family keeps his name alive through the delicious ice cream spun out of the truly Texan hole-in-the-wall parlour on Main Street.

Hank’s rotates 18 flavours by the day off a list of 100.

Cute little ice cream shop in the plaza with some unique flavours. It is also great that they allow you to try some of them before deciding.

Try the sea salt and  it sounds and looks interesting,

The pomegranate raspberry is tasty complemented by a tangy sweetness further made great since it’s fruity and light.

They also have mini tubs of ice cream you could get if you don’t want their soft serve

If any ice cream in Houston can be classified as whimsical, it’s the treats from this Australian-born magic factory.

With locations in Asia Town and the Heights, Aqua S specializes in sea salt ice cream coloured in (what else) aqua blue.

You can top your cone (charcoal, naturally) of soft-serve with fun toppings like toasted marshmallows, popcorn, and cotton candy.

Fat Cat shines most when it comes to their seasonal sundaes! Their ice cream goes perfectly with baked goods from Fluff Bake Bar and the toppings and whipped cream make everything harmonize beautifully.

With locations sprinkled throughout Houston, Fat Cat offers deliciously fresh small-batch, scratch-made ice cream with ingredients sourced from local farms.

The parlour offers five flavours year-round, including Milk Chocolate Stout – made with Convict Hill Oatmeal Stout beer; Waterloo Strawberry Buttermilk – made with Waterloo Texas Gin; and Chai Tea Coconut.

Fat Cat also whips out a variety of yummy seasonal flavours, such as their Salted Butter Caramel, Buttered Rum Raisin, and Raspberry Beret Sorbet. Meow.

Their waffle cone is the real star it is crispy and not too dense. The brown sugar created parts are a little chewier (in a good way) – similar to a stroopwafel while you can also taste the nuttiness that the browned butter contributes.

Booza Is a Mediterranean style of ice cream that has a very dough stretchy consistency.
It is definitely an acquired taste butflav ors taste very organic.

Booza—ice cream in Arabic—has been a Palestinian delight for decades, and this family-run shop does it as well as anyone in America.

Arabic ice cream is made with the Mastic from the Mastic Tree evergreen and is even used in gum. It has many medicinal benefits, as well.  

This sticky texture makes the booza have a wonderful texture that is pure delight.  

Look for traditional flavours like lemon, rosewater, and ishta (sweet cream). Booza also does sorbet and gelato (almond with salted peanuts for the win), plus banana splits and coffee.

If you never tried Booza Mediterranean Ice cream, Give them a shot.

Art or ice cream? You will thoroughly enjoy Amorino Gelato. The whole thing is an experience.

There are so many flavours to choose from, this place was not made for indecisive people. In the event, you make a  choice the server crafts your gelato into perfection. 

Set in Uptown, Amorino is a French-born Italian gelato parlour that creates spectacular ice cream treats.

from a magnificent mix of swooning flavours from Mawardi Pistachio to Amarena Cream and Black Cherries, and have it shaped into a deliciously sweet flower.

 Don’t forget to top it off with a house-made macaroon to complete the experience

Their signature cone comes with the ice cream being shaped like a rose and the petals are huge, each with a different taste.It is not too sweet nor crunchy and as far as ice cream cones go it is a perfect size and balances the gelato wonderfully.

Don’t let the craziness get to your head at this roadside stop in Pasadena.

Brain Freeze does some of Houston’s most insane ice cream creations, like a rich chocolate shake (in a Mason jar) topped with Oreos, full scoops of chocolate ice cream, and a Klondike bar.

For colour, and for the heck of it, the rim is “salted” with Fruity Pebbles. But that isn’t all—the menu offers just about every kooky idea under the sun. Just be mindful of melting.

Make your way to this amazing ice cream shop if you are looking for a place that is not simple and boring. So don’t ask for vanilla or chocolate ice cream. You will be greeted by a sign that says it too!

The unique flavours here will completely blow your mind! Literally. Try out thai tea flavoured ice cream, butter pecan, strawberry cheesecake and brownie chunks!

As the website reads: “life is too short for plain vanilla.” While we humbly enjoy the particular flavour, it does well to mix it up here and again with a variety of creative flavours.

This ice cream shop, located in Montrose off of Westheimer, specializes in hand-spun mix-ins.

Such flavours include the Heart of Glass made with a cream cheese base and house-made cinnamon blondies (get it?) and the Butter Pecan Streusel, a delectable mix of house-made pecan streusel blended with brown butter and brown sugar base.

Rest assured, you’ll be rewarded in kind for mixing it up at milk + sugar!

This is a pleasant, adorable little parlour with a super cute interior, swings included.

There is a variety of both classic and creative real treats for your taste buds. There are different flavours of cones to choose from so the real task is trying to get the right flavour of ice cream to compliment the cone.

 It is a small-batch creamery shop off  Kirby Dr. churning out premium artisan ice cream.

Flower & Cream offers a rotating mix of flavours, including dairy-free, gluten-free, and vegan options. Present flavours include their Honey Roasted Strawberry, Creme Brulee, Raspberry Tres Leches, and Kahlúa & Cookies flavours.

Enjoy plenty of seating and lots of opportunities for photos with the swings near the windows.

Everything was so yummy, with lots of options for toppings and cone flavours. It is highly recommended if you’re a fan of ice cream.

This speciality ice cream shop is well worth the visit.  They have a wide array of unique homemade ice cream flavours to choose from.  

With its calming pink and white hues and its old-school parlour feel, Sweet Bribery certainly looks like a throwback.

But then you check out flavours like tiramisu, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and bourbon espresso, and you notice the boozy treats like the porter float made with a local dark beer … the creativity is pretty high here. We recommend Southern Grasshopper for a refreshing summery moment: mint chocolate chip ice cream, a crème de menthe brownie, hot fudge, and Andes mints.

Finally, try the boozy desserts,  they sound intriguing.

The spot is located in the same plaza next to Grand Lux Restaurant with plenty of parking. On walking in you will have many options available.

For those people who are vegan, there are milkshakes and ice cream options.

Thanks, science! Creamistry in Cypress, Houston, utilizes liquid nitrogen to instantly freeze each order with your choice of base, toppings, and mix-ins.

With a laboratory full of flavours, toppings, and upgrades, ordering could be a bit overwhelming. Instead, trust in the tasty science of Creamistry with their signature creations.
