The gym, health and fitness industry is a roughly $27 billion market in the U.S., reports research company IBISWorld.

But while the sector is still dominated by titans like Planet Fitness, Golds Gym and Lifetime Fitness, analysts say demand is shifting toward smaller clubs and fitness facilities.

According to Matt Powell, vice president and industry analyst for sports and leisure trends at market research company NPD Group, consumers are opting for focused and personalized workouts.

Gyms and fitness studios continue to enter the Dallas market. Mvement, a Colorado-based brand offering rock climbing, yoga, and fitness facilities, opened in North Dallas.

Illinois-based Spenga (spin, strength, yoga), just bought two locations in North Texas and European fitness brand John Reed Fitness and Minnesota-based Life Time, also announced local openings for 2022.

Several of the biggest names in the boutique fitness game (SoulCycle, Orangetheory, CycleBar, and Barry’s Bootcamp) set their sights on Dallas.
