Willie Lanier was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the second round of the 1967 NFL Draft, and he later became the game’s first black middle linebacker.

He admitted to Sports Illustrated that he is quite proud of his role in shattering barriers and revolutionizing the position. He is a member of the football Hall of Fame and spent 11 seasons with the Chiefs.

10. The AFC West division has belonged to the Kansas City Chiefs
