Things to do in Prague in May

There is one reason why Prague in May is great: May is called ‘květen’ in Czech, as word derived from the verb ‘kvést’ which means to bloom. And yes, Prague is a big bloom boom during this amazing month, so make sure you book your flight quickly because you don’t want to wait for another year! There is no way you can miss out the events and activities taking place in the most flowering month of the year. Check out our tips on the best things to do in Prague in May!

Be at Petrin on the first of May

Prague in May

Whereas before the Velvet Revolution in 1989 everybody had to take part in never-ending processions organized by the Communist party on May 1st, today a big majority of Czechs perceive this day as a ‘day of love’. A walk in the beautiful Petrin Park which is just a stone’s throw away from the Prague Castle is a must do as well as the kiss under the blossoming cherry tree!

Visit the Old Town Square of Prague

Even though it’s been almost seventy years, Czech grandmas and grandpas tell their grandchildren about how it felt like to finally be liberated after the long, exhausting war. Even though Prague should have never been bombed nor damaged, it sadly was. Try to understand how the Czechs felt during the last days of World War II, when some of the treasures of architecture were just slowly bleeding to death. Come to the Old Town Square of Prague and ask locals to tell you what happened with the iconic town hall.

Be in Prague in May for the Beer festival

Czechs are the beer masters! Yes! We are world’s leaders when it comes to beer consumption with incredible 150 liters of beer per head, but even babies included! And since we think that drinking every day is not enough, we have a special festival which begins mid May and lasts for a month, so that everybody can have fun at Prague’s version of the iconic Oktoberfest.

Be in for a picnic with the locals

Stop by at one of the most famous spring and summer beer gardens in Prague to grab a beer, make yourself comfortable at Prague’s top meadow, watch the joggers, sleep, suntan or just think about how beautiful life can be. And don’t forget to take a picture of the angelic St. Vitus cathedral, the sacred heart of Bohemia.

Be at the Art Nouveau exhibition at the fascinating Municipal House

Celebrity artists got together at the turn of the century to decorate the iconic Municipal House, which is five minutes away from the Old Town Square, in 1905 to promote the Czech culture against the Austrian sovereignty. Check out their works, especially Mucha’s and find out why not only Ivan Lendl loves his art.

Visit the Lobkowitz Palace

One of the best things to do in Prague in May is to visit the Lobkowitz Palace. This palace possesses the oldest and the most important collection of Art in the Czech Republic. At the exhibition, you will be able to see more than six hundred years of Czech and European history!

Also, have a look at the architecture of this Baroque palace, which is totally Instagram material for the “pic of the day”!

Take a few pictures at the Lennon Wall

If you want to know another amazing place for taking cool and original photos, go to the Lennon Wall. The month of May is the perfect time for this, because the weather is pleasant and the sun is shining, so it is the best month to enjoy nice and relaxing walks in the city!

This colorful wall really stands out in the medieval atmosphere of Prague. Plus, its history is very interesting, to start with the fact that John Lennon never visited Prague in his life! For those of you who enjoy street art, you will love this place!

Have a beer bath

While in Prague, you will be able to try many different Czech beers, but you also can bath in beer as well! This unusual activity is possible in one of the Beer Spas you will find in the city. This will certainly be a moment of relaxation, while freely enjoying beer! Then, you can also have a beer massage! If beer is your favorite alcoholic beverage, you will be well-served!

Cross the Charles Bridge

After visiting the old centre of the city, you can continue your visit by crossing the Vltava River on the Charles Bridge, which is the most famous, but also one of the most touristic places of the city! Beware of the crowds, and always keep an eye on your belongings! If you want to enjoy a romantic moment on the bridge, go there at night, with the city illuminated!

The history of the bridge is fascinating. Its construction began in 1357 and was finished in 1402 under the orders of Charles IV who wished to link the two sides of the city that was divided by the Vlatava. Today, it is a very important place to go from the Old Town to the Prague Castle. It is very likely that you cross it several times during your stay. Take the time to appreciate the view, enjoy the music played by the street artists. The atmosphere of the Charles Bridge is so unique!
