Things to do in Paris in June

things to do in paris in june 1

I love Paris in June. Days are longer. Winter clothes are definitely put aside. Everyone is happier. As a Parisian I obviously think that my city is amazing all year round, but the month of June has to be one of my favorites. Okay, one of the reasons might perhaps be because this is the moment when my holidays start as a student, but there’s more than this.

June is a very special month. A lot of Parisians are still working but everybody is looking forward to the summer and appreciating the nice weather, while tourist-wise the City of Light is still pretty quiet compared to busy July and August. So all in all, June is a time you will get all the advantages of the summer in Paris, and there’s a lot of nice stuff to do, too! Here is a list of things to do in Paris in June, according to a local.

Walk along the river or have dinner on one of its many ‘Bateaux Mouches’

June is also a great time of the year in France because this is the moment when the days are the longest. As the sun sets at about 10 pm, the evenings are very pleasant and taking a walk on the banks of the Seine river is a really nice way to enjoy the city.

Another one of the many nice things to do in Paris in June is to cruise the river Seine on Vedettes du Pont-Neuf boats, or to take an evening cruise, and even to have dinner on one of the Seine’s ‘Bateaux Mouches’: besides being able to taste wonderful French food, it’ll also give you a great view of Paris’ landmarks with the setting sun! Have a nice evening during Fête de la Musique (Music Day) on the 21st

As I play music, this is obviously one of my favourite things to do in Paris in June. During Fête de la Musique, the streets of the city are filled with people who go out to listen to some of the many amateur or professional musicians who come to play outside. In every single district, you will find some nice music to listen to. The atmosphere is always very warm and friendly!

For an even more special night, you can also go in front of the Eiffel Tower, where a stage is usually built especially for the night and famous French artists perform.

Have a sporty day in the stands of the Roland Garros tennis tournament

Next in our list of things to do in Paris in June is a special event that is followed by millions of people in France and around the world: the French Open, more commonly referred to as the Roland Garros tennis tournament.

It happens at the beginning of the month: from May, 26th to June, 9th. Even if you’re not very sporty, the experience of watching these top-class players from the stands is always amazing! You can get to the Roland Garros Stadium by line 9 and 10 of the metro by getting off at Porte d’Auteuil or Michel Molitor stations.

Have a picnic at Champs de Mars, at the foot of Eiffel Tower

In June, the weather is great. People are much more relaxed. They gather after work in gardens, parks and terraces. The atmosphere is very friendly and cheerful. In Paris, we do a lot of walking and there is no better way to rest in June than to do it at Champs de Mars. Just grab some sandwiches, some chips, some fruits and go have a picnic at the Champs de Mars (or any other garden or park, by the way!).

Aside from being away from touristy places to eat, you will be surrounded by locals! This is a must do if you want to live the Parisian Experience to the fullest. Take a blanket and sunscreen. Don’t forget your hat and your sunglasses! Because you might get a bit of sun bathing.

In June, this is one of my favorite things to do in Paris. I love to enjoy the sun, read a book and take a nap in Paris parks and gardens. It is so peaceful and relaxing. I highly recommend it to anyone who comes to Paris in June.

Enjoy the night with locals

Paris is even prettier at night! Days are longer and much warmer. You will get to take the most incredible sunset pictures along the Seine river. Discover the best of Paris at night with a local guide. To join a night tour is really a must do in June, if you want to know Paris by night. Where do locals go at night? What is the best place to have a cocktail? Those are questions only a local can answer. Great moments are born from great opportunities!

Party at music festivals for good causes

On June, 1st and 2nd, We Love Green Festival is taking place. This festival is one-of-a-kind! One of its main objectives is to raise awareness about our environmental responsibility and the importance of finding solutions to environmental issues.

During those two days, plenty of workshops happen. You get to participate in debates and share ideas with people about those subjects. On top of all this, you get to see amazing pop artists such as Tame Impala, Christine and the Queens, Fka Twigs, Rosalía, and many more! The We Love Green Festival is one of the things to do in Paris in June, because it is pretty special for allying music to environmental protection.

From June, 21st until 23rd, the Solidays Festival is happening. This year, it is the twentieth edition of the festival. And as you know, us Parisians, always try to have fun while sending the right messages! The Solidays Festival raises awareness about AIDS disease. It tries to let young people know about STDs. And all the profits earned from the festival are donated to organizations fighting AIDS.

The artists performing during those three days come for a small amount of money or even for free, which is a great initiative! This year we can count on the presence of Angèle, Corine, Die Antwoord, Lomepal, Macklemore, and many more!

Visit La Petite Ceinture

The City Hall recently inaugurated a small part of the rehabilitated Petite Ceinture, right in the heart of the twentieth district. This railway welcomed passengers until 1934, it was then closed. But since it has now been reopened, you will be able to walk through this lovely hidden gem of Paris! The Petite Ceinture is quite a unique place, since it maintains its wild look. It is open every day of the week, from 8 am to 8.30 pm during the week and from 9 am to 8.30 pm during the weekend. This is the summer opening hours! The access is free of charge and you can get in by the 11, rue de la Mare.

This is one of the best things to do in Paris in June, since it is not yet a touristic attractions! So, it is perfect for you if you want to enjoy a quiet moment in the city in an unusual place!

As Victor Hugo used to say “to err is human, to loaf is Parisian”. And there’s no better month to loaf than during the month of June. Parisian are the best and most fun loafers you will ever get to meet. Summer holidays are getting closer and Parisians are feeling it coming. The result is that they are much less stressed and you can sense it! The streets are full of people, full of laughter, street performances. The atmosphere is just the best. June is still quiet calm, and there are not yet many tourists.

So you get to enjoy the best of Paris and go to the same events locals go to, such as music festivals (Solidays, We Love Green) and parties on the streets during Fête de la Musique! Get ready to live the best moments of your life and create memories that last a lifetime. If you follow my suggestion of things to do in Paris in June, you can be sure you will want to come back next year. It’s going to become an habit to come to Paris in June!
