The Best Family Hotels in Bangkok

Bangkok is the kind of city that draws in a fairly diverse mix of visitors. And although in some ways it’s not the most family-friendly place in the world, a lot of it depends on the area that you stay in the Thai capital, and of course the hotel plays a big part.

There is a very wide range of accommodation in Bangkok, but if you’ve got kids in tow it pays to stay somewhere in an area that is not too far from some of the best amenities that the city has to offer.

As the Bangkok traffic congestion is world-famous, it might be an idea to be somewhere close to a BTS sky train stop for a bit of quick city-hopping. Being at least somewhere near to one of the fantastic, green and spacious parks in the city would definitely help to break up any spells of concrete-trekking in this baking city too.

There are some great options here to choose from, in areas of the city that are nicer than a lot of others, and they are also close to places that may be of interest to anyone with a family.

The Phrom Phong neighbourhood on Sukhumvit for instance (where you’ll find the Emporium Suites) is  a much nicer stretch of the central Sukhumvit region that you might find even just a couple of BTS stops down at Nana.

You’ll have a choice of at least 2 seriously impressive shopping malls, as well as a park with plenty of green space and a little skate section near the back.

A bit further along the road from this neighbourhood is Asok, where you’ll find the Grande Mercure. This is a slightly more downscale area than Phrom Phong but still has some decent attractions like the huge Terminal 21 shopping complex. Here is also a choice of either the BTS line or the MRT subway from the interchange station at the Asok junction, next to the hotel. This means you can get pretty much anywhere you want across the city from here.

Some of these top Bangkok hotels are ideal for kids, like the Anantara Riverside which has a huge pool and plenty of green space to run around in, right next to the Chao Phraya River. This gives any younger kids the feeling of having a bit more freedom, with the possibility of finding a few new playmates.

So despite the fact that Bangkok is all about congestion, both on and off the road in the urban density, there are still plenty of family friendly spots to seek out in Bangkok, starting with the hotel and the location.

So let’s take a closer look at a selection of some of the best family hotels in Bangkok, in no particular order.

Anantara Riverside Bangkok Resort

You can escape Bangkok’s concrete and humid chaos and bustle in the impressively-landscaped grounds of the Anantara Riverside.

This is a great spot overlooking the Chao Phraya River, which means you’ll get some impressive and authentic Bangkok views. The hotel has a fairly huge outdoor pool, complete with spa jets, which gives you some idea about what to expect from the rest of the hotel.

The rooms are spacious, and the style is very art deco Thai-style, with nice fabrics and furnishings. You’ll also find massive, flat-screen TVs in the rooms here, as well as a very modern feel and lots of dining options. There are over 10 choices for cuisine, including seafood barbecues by the river on the hotel’s riverside terrace. Thai and Japanese dishes are just some of the other available options.

You can indulge yourself by getting a relaxing massage in the Anantara’s tropical garden spa, and if that sounds good you’ll be delighted to know that the hotel has various activities for kids at the Chang Noi (little elephant) Kids’ Club. There are also tennis and table tennis facilities, as well as a fitness centre.

If you can drag yourself away from this place and fancy venturing out into the city, the Saphan Taksin BTS station is literally 5 minutes away, and a private shuttle boat runs guests across there.  The hotel is also a great location from which to explore via the riverboats, and is a 45-minute drive from Suvarnabhumi International Airport.

Chatrium Hotel Riverside Bangkok

Also to be found along the banks of the Chao Phraya River is the Chatrium Hotel Riverside. Here you’ll find more top-notch rate amenities including a great outdoor pool, a spa and a fitness centre. Needless to say there are some impressive views to be had from this hotel on the river, along with easy access to some of Bangkok’s other prime attractions.
