The best baguettes in Paris

Just before telling you about the best baguettes in Paris, let me tell you a personal anecdote: when I was in high school I went to the US to stay for two weeks in a host family near New York. The family was lovely and made everything they could so my stay would be pleasant and I would not be too homesick.

A part of that was buying French food, and among French food, French baguettes. They seemed really disappointed that I was not as impressed as expected by their « French baguette ». However when I saw them again in New York a few years later, one of the first things they told me was « We went to France. And we understood why you did not like our bread. »

That tells it all! France is the world capital of bread, and since Paris is the capital of France, here is a ranking of the best baguettes in Paris.

1.] Le Grenier à Pain (rue des Abbesses, Montmartre)

Each and every year is held the very serious contest of the best « traditional baguette » – the winner gets to supply the French presidency for a year. Moreover you can guess that there is a lot to of competition to pretend to the title of best baguette in Paris. It makes it again more impressive for this bakery to have won the contest twice both in 2010 and 2015.

2.] Au petit Versailles(Marais, rue François Miron)

This bakery is not only beautiful but also serves one of the best baguettes in Paris- namely the 2nd best baguette. In addition to that it is wonderfully located, in the heart of the trendy area of the Marais, close to Place des Vosges and the best falafel places in Paris.

3.] Au Paradis du Gourmand( XIVth arrondissement)

Winner of the 2013 contest of the best baguettes in Paris, it is also a personal favourite of the author for the friendly atmosphere that reigns in there.
