The Best 2 Star Hotels of Lisbon

Most of the time in Lisbon, 2 star hotels are labeled as hostels instead of hotels. This helps with the nature of Lisbon being a youthful travel designation when compared to other places in Europe — and young travelers tend to gravitate towards the word “hostel” instead of hotel.

2 Star accommodation in Lisbon is usually extremely affordable and in no ways subpar to the more heavier priced hotels that surround them.

I maintain my belief that if you are saving on accommodation you should always ensure that the 2 star hotels in which you choose to stay are at least somewhat central so that they money you save doesn’t have to be splurged on transport into the city.

Here are some wonderful (and central) 2 star hotel/hostel options in the Portuguese capital.

Stay Inn in Lisbon

Rua Luz Soriano 19

Its uncommon for 2 star hotels to provide kitchen facilities in Lisbon, but the Stay Inn does.

This hotel is situated just a five minute walk from the famous Bairro Alto neighborhood. A social and action filled part of Lisbon that most travelers make a priority to visit .

The quirky interior of this hotel makes it a unique place to stay. Portugal is a colorful land and the Stay Inn has brought the streets into the space through fabric switching and mismatched furniture.

Guests at the Stay Inn enjoy a full buffet breakfast each morning and, as mentioned, have access to communal kitchen facilities for the rest of the day. This saves one money on having to venture out of the house every time they want to eat!

One of the first things you should do after arriving at this hotel is take the short walk over to the Santa Catarina Viewpoint nearby — lindo!

This Is Lisbon Hostel in Lisbon

Rua Da Costa Do Castelo 63

This hotel/hostel hybrid is low-key, affordable and quaint.

The main attraction of this property is the massive rooftop terrace that guests are welcome to enjoy twenty four hours a day. The terrace overlooks Bairro Alto and the rest of the Lisbon city center.

This space is largely centered around communal living and guests are encouraged to mingle and engage in conversation in the various public spaces. It’s the ideal place to stay if you are traveling solo or looking to make friends quickly as soon as you arrive in town.

Breakfast is served each morning. This Is Lisbon is also about a minutes walk from one of my favorite tapas restaurants in the city, a vegetarian gem called The Food Temple.

Portugal Ways in Lisbon

Rua Do Vale 17

Portugal Ways is an apartment block that is run as a hotel; instead of individual rooms, guests book out apartment spaces and self-catering units.

This is somewhat of a hybrid between hotel living and Airbnb. You enjoy the security of hotel hospitality but the space and freedom that comes with having your own place.

Portugal Ways is located in the heart of Lisbon city center. Be aware this is a tourist hub and a bustling district in which to stay; so expect chaotic streets, lively retail facilities, historic attractions and free guided walking tours.

If you can, opt for the suites that have balconies attached to the rooms. It’s wonderful to watch the city of Lisbon go by from up above and makes for great ventilation in the apartments during the hot summer.

Londrina B&B in Lisbon

Rua Castilho 61 1º

Londrina is a beautiful little hotel near Bairro Alto in Lisbon. The hotel is made up of juts 14 rooms that are all thoughtfully decorated with individual tastes.

I find this space to have somewhat of a French flair to the interior design, which gives an enjoyable contrast to the Portuguese city that exists just outside the walls.

Breakfast is served daily in the dining room. Unfortunately there are no available kitchen facilities to be used outside of this. There are ample restaurants on the surrounding streets, however.

Londrina also has its own lounge bar on the property where guests can mingle in a communal space. This isn’t a common find in 2 star hotels in Lisbon.

Take note that the nearest metro line is a ten minute walk away.

Bairro Alto Suites in Lisbon

Rua Da Rosa 252

Ten minutes by foot from Rossio Square, the Bairro Alto Suites in Lisbon offer travelers a comfortable 2 star accommodation option. From here you’ll access Lisbon’s city center in just under a twenty minute walk.

There is no breakfast nor kitchen facilities at this hotel, however it is situated a mere five minutes by foot from one of the most popular restaurants in Lisbon. Lost In Esplanada is an  eclectic dining experience that offers a range of Portuguese and Mediterranean dishes — a must eat experience if this is your first time in the Portuguese capital.

As far as rooms in the Bairro Alto go, they are all referred to as ‘suites’ and are spacious, clean and beautifully decorated considering.

Some of the suites feature balconies that overlook the beautiful town streets below. Most of the bedrooms have floor to ceiling windows by the beds which ensures you wake up to the city first thing — don’t worry, there are blackout curtains if this is not your cup of tea!
