Where to Eat Pancakes in Rome

There’s nothing like home comforts when you’re traveling, and food is one of the biggest components of this.

Bruch food is a big deal across Europe; being able to make the perfect Eggs Benedict is something cafes across Rome aspire to since the dish made its way over from the United Kingdom.

Pancakes are another menu item taken very seriously in the Italian capital. There are a lot of cafes offering them, but very few getting them just right. To save you the trouble of risking a bad batch, I’ve narrowed them down to the best in each category. Buon appetito!

Savory Pancakes: Coromandel in Rome

Coromandel is on the right bank of the Tiber River, close to Rome’s beautiful Pantheon.

This might have made my top pick for savory pancakes in Rome, but to be honest they get this dish right in many more varieties. Coromandel is a quaint, vintage themed cafe that focuses on gourmet pancakes, waffles and French toast dishes.

If you’re going to eat pancakes in Rome, it should be here. Whether you’re into sweet, chocolaty or even cheesy — they’ll make it happen. This is one of few places in Rome to offer egg and bacon pancakes; hence it being the best bet for savory options.

Vegan Pancakes: Baylon Cafe in Rome

If you were to simply cross the river from Coromandel you’ll come to this equally as charming Roman cafe. Interestingly, Baylon was once the site of Rome’s best known orphanage, many years ago.

Today they make food for every diet under the sun. Meat eaters, keto, vegans, gluten free, lactose free, paleo… it’s one of the best cafes in Rome.

Their vegan menu is extensive and inclusive. You can have everything from scrambled “eggs”, to carbonara, and exquisite French toast. Their vegan pancakes are fluffy, fruity and utterly delicious.

Street seating is preferable as this is a very trendy neighborhood to bask in.

Sweet Pancakes: Bakery House in Rome

Rome has a few branches of Bakery House around the city center and outlying suburbs. The bakery looks like it was pulled right out of a children’s book, or Wes Anderson’s next film.

The pancakes are diner style; basic bake and then toppings, with powdered sugar all over them. Toppings can be chosen by you and range from fruit-sweet to banana caramel-sweet to melted chocolate-sweet – or a combination of everything.

They also do a selection of fresh baked pastries each day, which can be enjoyed over a cup of fine, imported tea. I do believe the initial intention of this cafe was to be Rome’s local tea house.

I was surprised to find that all of their branches are open from early in the morning through until midnight. These pancakes make fantastic late night treats then!

Children’s Pancakes: Vintro Bar & Bites in Rome

In more astounding news, Vintro is open for business just short of 24 hours a day. You can eat pancakes here at almost any time your heart desires.

I found this to be the best place to take children for pancakes in Rome. The cafe is laid back and lies in the far north of the city center.

Unlike other cafes in Rome, Vintro doesn’t coat their pancakes in complicated toppings and flavors; they keep it simple, powdered sugar and chopped strawberries. Maple syrup is left on the table as an option.

Children love these stacks because they are more like cake and less like brunch. Vintro’s waffles are crowd pleasers amongst the kids as well; equally as simple but with a generous scoop of ice cream to melt into the dough.

Fruity Pancakes: Ginger in Rome

Ginger is a fabulous fruity cafe just east of Rome’s ancient city. I like to drop in here to refresh after guided walking tours; they make great pressed juices and smoothies to go.

Their pancakes are served with a much or as little fruit as you would like. I particularly enjoyed that everything was plated individually, including each individual fruit and even the maple syrup was contained on the side.

It’s kind of like a “build your own” pancake concept. Another great spot for children who are picky eaters and might prefer to create their plate themselves.

Late Night Pancakes: Dolce in Rome

Pancakes in Rome are typically served as a brunch food, between 10am and 2pm each day. Dolce challenges this norm and instead serves them through the night; the cafe only opens for business at 6pm each day.

It’s breakfast for dinner, and it’s wonderful.

Their stacks are impressive! Piled with fruits both on top and between the layers. Needless to say eating this after a long night of dancing in Rome’s party district is like getting a tastebud-hug from Aphrodite herself.
