Luxury Rome: Our Recommended 5 Star Hotels

Few countries in the world do opulent luxury quite like Italians. Their interior decor style has inspired the interiors of palaces and aristocrat homes across Europe.

Rome’s luxury hotels are fit for royalty. It’s palace quality living quarters combined with 5 star hospitality; and the ancient infrastructure of the city makes for the perfect foundation in which to set up these establishments.

There’s no saying where the best neighborhoods for luxury stays are in Rome. It’s more so about where the developers were able to isolate the most ideal property, and so Rome’s 5 star hotels are scattered through the city center, and even the outlying suburbs.

Here are a few we recommend most:

The St. Regis Rome in Rome

Do you trust the likes of Madonna and the Rolling Stones to know 5 star luxury when they see it? These celebrities (and many others) make the St Regis Hotel their home base when they visit or perform in the Italian capital.

The St Regis is pure opulence; a belle epoque palace space revisited and redefined to become one of Rome’s most prestigious hotels. The interiors are made up of a combination of antiques and carefully sourced furniture from around Italy.

Some rooms have fireplaces, others jacuzzis. There is a Mediterranean restaurant on site in addition to the hotel restaurant. Afternoon tea is served to all guests daily. It goes without saying that the concierge will organize just about anything you need, from transportation to guided walking tours.

The St Regis is one of the most central 5 star hotels, just a two minute and three minute walk from the Repubblica and Termini metro stops respectively.

Hotel Eden in Rome

Hotel Eden opened its doors in 1889 and sought to redefine what Rome knew about 5 star luxury. It’s located in the original La Dolce Vita neighborhood, known for authentic vibes, stunning views and tranquility.

The hotel recently underwent some much needed renovations to modernize certain parts of the old building. It reopened to the public in 2017.

They are known for their rooftop restaurant and bar that overlooks the city center and offers live piano music every evening. Most of the hotel suites have private terraces where one can enjoy similar panoramic views but in private.

The hotel is central. It’s a short walk to all the major attractions and train stations. Rome’s Museum of Modern Art is on the same road, about a four minute walk south.

Parco dei Principi Grand Hotel in Rome

Luxury hotels that opt for property slightly further away from the city center usually have far better amenities than the others. They have access to much vaster space and can build features such as swimming pools, tennis courts and private gardens; all things that hotels in the city center can’t do.

The Parco dei Principi Grand is a hotel and spa. It’s further north of the center, near the Villa Borghese park’s northernmost boundary.

The hotel boasts both an indoor and an outdoor pool; you can swim here regardless of the season. The spa is three stories high and the gardens feel like you’ve landed in the summer villa of Italy’s rich and famous.

Everything at The Parco is traditionally Italian; from the decor to the restaurant and seasonal cafe. You have the choice of a hotel room or an apartment when you stay at The Parco; the apartments have full kitchen facilities which is great for anyone who prefers not to eat out every evening.

Hotel de Russie in Rome

We know where rockstars and celebrities like to stay when they visit Rome, but where did the artists from the rest of Europe stay when they needed to spend time in the eternal city?

Picasso, Stravinsky, Cocteau and their friends used to stay at one hotel and one hotel only: the Hotel de Russie.

Situated in Rome’s historic center, this hotel puts you right in the thick of the touristic chaos. It becomes a welcome sanctuary and an escape after your days spent sight seeing, shopping and on guided walking tours of the area.

The Russie is chic, stylish and discreet. The interior is not typical to what you’d imagine Italian luxury to encompass; it’s far more modern, especially since the renovations in 2000.

The hotel bar is a popular congregation point for contemporary artists who must gather in Rome for current events.

Hotel Majestic in Rome

I love the Hotel Majestic. It is the most unassuming 5 star hotel from the outside; walking by you would never expect this neoclassical building from 1889 to hold such lavish living quarters within its walls.

The suites at the Majestic are playful; they make use of natural light and mismatched (but carefully selected) pieces that create the overall whimsey of the place.

The location is also prime, in my opinion. You’re equally walking distance from all of the notable landmarks that Rome has to offer: the Trevi Fountain, the Colosseum, the Spanish Steps, the Pantheon…

While both the classic hotel restaurant and bar are great, this neighborhood is littered with traditional trattorias and eateries for you to venture out to dinner each evening. Stay in for the buffet breakfast, however; it’s a world class spread and a beautiful start to the day in Rome.
