Capitolini Museum

During the 147 the Capitoline Museums were born. History tells us that Pope Sixtus IV gave the Roman people a group of bronze statues of great symbolic value.
In addition to the statues, he donated the She-wolf, the Spinario, the Camillus and the colossal head of Constantine, with the globe and the hand. The collections in the museum have a close link with the city of Rome. Most of the works that you will go to admire come from the city of Rome. They are original pieces and they will make you understand the story of the city. During the mid-sixteenth century, many other sculptures were placed all around Rome.

We can easily say that during those times the Vatican was full of “pagan” images”. Pope Pius V wanted them out of the holy city. And for this reason during the second half of the 16th century other works of art were added. The collections were increased with many artistic testimonies. The space was reduced a lot and for this reason, the “Palazzo Nuovo” was then built. The building was completed in 1654. The museum was inaugurated only in 1734.

You can visit the museum virtually if you prefer here at this link . If you want to visit the museum you can buy the ticket here. At this link you will find the timetables and opening hours and days. To reach the museum from the Termini Station catch the 75 bus. You’ll be there in 15 minutes.
