Rome is absolutely my favourite city. Believe me when I say that is a wonderful place to visit with your family and kids especially during summer. 

I know that travelling with kids is challenging but the eternal city is full of things to do and see. You’ll find fun and entertaining activities for your kids. Doesn’t matter if it’s a museum, a monument or a cultural place. They will have fun and enjoy every moment in Rome!

1. The video game museum: Vigamus

Even when you grow up, you never stop playing with videogames. Then I recommend that you pay a visit to Vigamus.
In Via Sabotino n. 4 you will find this fantastic video game museum.
A space entirely dedicated to older consoles up to the latest and modern videogames.
Your kids will discover the “ancestors” of their video games and will be able to admire many unique pieces.
The museum’s collection boasts 440 pieces and 50 game stations.

2. Maxxi: il museo Nazionale delle arti del XXI secolo

If you are looking for something to do that can occupy your family then Maxxi is the place to be.
There are tons of things to do and I recommend you check their website to see all the offers.
You absolutely must not miss the special projects they offer that will allow your kids to approach art and learn.

3. Having fun with technology: Technotown

If your children are passionate about technology and everything related to it then you are in the right place.
Technotown is a technical-scientific playroom where you and your kids can have fun and spend an afternoon immersed in technology.
The activities change and have their own programming so I recommend you visit their website to find out more about it.
The minimum age to enter is six years.

Technotown is located inside Villa Torlonia, a few steps from the University City of La Sapienza.

4. A day at the amusement park: LunEur

If you are looking for something more carefree and fun then an afternoon at LunEur Park is for you.
LunEur is filled with colourful rides and historic attractions that date back to the first amusement park set up in the same place.

5. The animals of the Civic Museum of Zoology

If your children are animal lovers then the Civic Museum of Zoology is the place for them.
Here you will find gigantic skeletons and prehistoric animals to admire.
Among the different rooms you will find many animals including the skeleton of a whale, an elephant and a giraffe.
In the Zoolab they will be able to participate in the activities planned for the day.
And you will find all the instructions to become a real ornithologist.

6. Cinema passion at  Cinebimbicittà

If your kids are interested in cinema and everything related to it then bring them here.
They will have a great time discovering the world that lies behind the scenes of the films.
Here the kids will be involved in workshops and projects while the parents will be able to tour around the Cinecittà studios.

7. The cannon of the Janiculum

If you want to spend an afternoon amidst ancient monuments and the history of Rome, then I recommend that you take a detour near the Janiculum.
Yes, right here you will find an ancient cannon that every day starting from 1846 and at 12 o’clock will fire a blank shot that resounds throughout the Eternal City.
You can admire the cannon for free and stroll across the Janiculum in the cool.

To get to the Gianicolo in time, take tram 64 which leaves from Termini Station.

8. The botanical garden of Rome

Here you can spend an afternoon immersed in greenery and sheltered from the Roman summer heat.
In this place you can admire tropical plants and also the Japanese style garden.
You will find many different areas such as the Mediterranean garden or the tropical garden.
During the walk you will admire a stream and even a pond.
Without forgetting the many parrots that rest among the trees.

9. Leonardo Da Vinci’s machines

Here you will have the opportunity to admire the machines in their real dimensions.
Each room of the institute houses a different machine designed by Leonardo Da Vinci.
Of course you know who Leonardo Da Vinci is!
If not, you should know that Leonardo is one of the greatest artists, engineer, scientist and inventors of the 16th century.

The exhibition is open every day from 9:30 to 19:00 at the Gallery of the Portuguese Institute of Sant’Antonio.

10. The Colosseum for children
