Prague is a beautiful city, the capital of the Czech Republic. The city is very attractive, being one of the top tourist destinations in Europe. It is very well known for its beautiful architecture and rich culture, and there is always something to do in the city. A city you should visit. The city is not exactly a celebrity hub, but it boasts of some of the biggest names in modeling, and sports. 

Here are five of the five celebrities who, you might or might not know were born in Prague, Czech Republic.

1. Martina Navrátilová

Martina is a big name in sports not only in the Czech Republic but across the world. She was, born in 1956 and is a renowned tennis player, born and bred in Prague. She is known for her prowess in Tennis in the 1970s and 1980s. oh and she is also left-handed; she won the Federation Cup in 1975, and many titles between 1972 and 1975. She started playing at a very young age; she was only eight when she started playing. Her life has not been without drama, though. She had to flee to the USA since the Czech government tried to limit her career in tennis and her citizenship was taken from her. She however got a USA citizen where she resided from 1981 until 2008 when she got back her Czech citizenship. She now holds dual citizenship- American and Czech and has displayed great performance in many tournaments including Wimbledon; where, in the 1983 edition, she won 86 out of 87 matches. Some other notable wins include the French Open Women’s Singles, Australian Open Women’s Singles, US Open Women’s Singles. She is also the oldest lady in history to win the Wimbledon; having won it at 46 years in 2006. She brags of great achievement in her tennis career taking home 59 Grand Slam titles: 18 singles, 31 doubles, and 10 mixed doubles during retirement in 2006! She has also authored an autobiography and many other books and is the first tennis player to come out as gay. 

2. Jaromír Jágr

Jagr is a retired hockey player. One of the best the sport has ever had! He enjoyed a thirty-year career winning some of the most notable titles in hockey during that time. He has also landed some pretty great deals like the 48 Million Dollar deal with the Penguins which lasted six years. He was also named NHL’s most valuable player during the 1998-1999 season! He was born on February 15th, 1972, and has won the Pittsburg Penguins twice, has won Stanley Cup, and joined the NHL All-Star Team in 1991. One of the most notable actions in his career was when he stepped in for his Mario Lemieux when he missed the 1994-1995 and the team did score! In 2007, he signed with the Russian Avangard Omsk for three seasons and in 2001, joined the Philadelphia Flyers. He has also played for the Dallas Stars and Boston Bruins as well as New Jersey Devils, Florida Panthers as well as Calgary Flames. Among the accolades he has won are the 1998 Winter Olympics win in Japan where he won gold and a bronze medal he won in 2006 during the Turin Winter Olympics. 

3. Ester Ledecká

She is the first person to win two gold medals in the same Winter Olympics, and using different equipment- skis and snowboards- and the second woman to win two gold medals in two different disciplines! she was born in Prague on March 23rd, 1995, and started with ice hockey when she was just four years old and later transitioned to snowboarding. Her first professional performance was in 2010 when she played during the 2011 Youth Olympic Festival and in 2016, she raced during the FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup. She is an alpine skier and snowboarder, and she is also the first woman from the Czech Republic to win the parallel giant slalom who at the FIS Snowboard World Cup won in snowboarding. Her grandfather was an ice hockey player, a seven-time world champion, and a two-time Olympic champion! Her father was a musician and her mother was a snowboarder! That explains her interest in the sport. 

4. Petra Němcová

She is a Television host, a philanthropist, and a model. She has been modeling since she was 18 years old, though she participated in various talent shows before that. She has worked in London, New York, Paris Milan, and the Czech Republic after being scouted and signed by NEXT Model Management. In 2004, she was one of the judges on Miss Universe in Quito as well as hosted ‘A Model Life’ on TLC. She has also participated in ‘Dancing with the Stars’ and finished 4th during the 12th season. The former Victoria’s Secret Model also speaks five languages- Slovak, Czech, English, French and Italian. Petra has also had some of the most devastating things happen to her in her life. In 2004, while vacationing in Thailand with her then-boyfriend Simon, a British photographer, a tsunami struck killing her boyfriend and had her stuck and clinging to a tree for eight hours before help arrived. This is how she began the Happy Hearts Fund in 2005 which has now merged with All Hands Volunteer and is now All Hands and Hearts which has built over 300 disaster-resilient schools in 12 countries across the world. She is now married and with one son.

5. Ivana Trump

Ivan was born on 20th February 1949. She started off skiing with help and instructions from her grandfather. She is a businesswoman who was once a model and started her career in Czechoslovakia and moved to Canada at some point where she was able to improve her career. She met and married her now ex-husband Donald Trump in 1976 and have three children together- Donald Jr, Ivanka, and Eric. She also has a perfume line, has written books- ‘Raising Trump’, ‘For Love Alone’, and ‘The Best is Yet to Come- Coping with Divorce and Enjoying Love again. She has also designed jewelry and clothes. She has taken part in shows like Dancing with the Stars, Ivana Young Man, and Celebrity Big Brother.
