The Best American Restaurants in Paris

Believe it or not, Paris is actually a great place to eat American-style food, owing to the fact that both gastronomies share a ton of dishes, and that French fries quite literally have France in the name.

If you’re in the mood for that classic US fix, here’s where you need to go:

Gumbo Yaya in Paris

Everything you thought you knew about American food takes a drastic turn at Gumbo Yaya. The spot brands itself as “soul food” from the South, and gives new meaning to savory waffles (by French standards).

First off, Gumbo Yaya is famous for their fried chicken and waffle combo. Crispy, perfectly spiced chicken sandwiched between waffle quarters, topped with secret sauce and loaded with fries. They call this their waffle burger, and unfortunately it is not available during lunch service at all, only after 7pm.

The Best Places to Eat Waffles in Paris

Gumbo Yaya does an alternative range of waffles for those who aren’t able to stomach the afore mentioned dish. Plain waffles with a side of chicken is a popular one, as is their sweet waffle with pomegranates, cream and powdered sugar.

Bagelstein in Paris

You’ll start to recognize the name Bagelstein fairly soon after first arriving in Paris. The chain has branches across the city, and is some of the finest fast food on the European continent (in my humble opinion).

This is a bagel spot, if the name didn’t already give it away. They’re cheap, quick and downright delicious, offering some of the freshest ingredients and home-made bagel breads that would make even a New Yorker swoon.

Not many places in Paris get bagel breads right — this is the land of the baguette after all. Bagestein has hit the nail on the head and is not to be missed if you’re on the hunt for a quick bite in the city center!

Top 3 Hamburger Joints in Paris

As fas as fast food goes, these meals are wonderfully made and you can sense a level of pride in the brand that is carried through by their employees. My personal favorite branch is the one on Saint-Germain blvd, in the Latin Quarter! Come 1am on a Friday night, this is the place to be for a greasy meal to soak up all remnants of a night of bar hopping.

Harry’s Bar in Paris

Harry’s was first opened in 1911 — but the time the 20s rolled around it was in its prime. The bar remains, to this day, the perfect fusion of Paris bistro meets New York speakeasy.

This bar was the first place to invent the Bloody Mary. Back in the 20s, the better known artists of Paris made Harry’s one of their weekly hangouts. They’d bounce ideas off of one another over cocktails and fine wine. There is no telling how many of the works we celebrate today saw its inception within these walls.

Le New York in Paris

Being the sucker I am for anything remotely charming, le New York is naturally my favorite place for after work drinks beneath the Eiffel Tower. Thankfully, it’s one of the more reasonably priced bars in the area, which makes it all too tempting to lose the better part of an evening here to dinner, drinks and dancing.
