15 Most Expensive Restaurants in Paris

When in Rome, do as the Romans do; and when in Paris, eat as the royals do.

That’s probably not the most viable life mantra to live by in retrospect, but if you do find yourself in the mood to splurge on some tiny plates of food while in Paris, this is the only list of restaurants you’re ever going to need. 

It goes without saying that booking is essential at all of the following establishments, as long in advance as possible. 

1. Le Pre Catelan in Paris

One of the most well known chefs in all of France is a man named Frédéric Anton. Le Pre Catelan is his baby, and he & his team offer unforgettable dining experiences to all who walk through these doors. 

The restaurant boasts 3 Michelin stars, and is situated in the charming Bois de Boulogne gardens in Paris. It’s a haute affair from start to finish, and one can expect to pay around 250 euros per person.

2. Le Jules Verne in Paris

This astonishing restaurant is situated on the second floor of, none other than, the Eiffel Tower. It is one of the most prestigious dining experiences in the country, and it comes with a price tag to match. 

The views speak for themselves; there really is no restaurant setting quite like it in Paris, especially at night.

3. Le Cinq in Paris

You’ll find le Cinq inside of the Four Seasons Hotel, in Paris’ 8th arrondissement. It’s opulent, it’s aesthetic perfection, and it’s got the Michelin stamp of approval.

Those three stars didn’t earn themselves; the team at le Cinq seem to understand luxury like no other. This is a real ‘treat-yo-self’ opportunity, indeed.

4. Alain Ducasse au Plaza Athenee in Paris

The Plaza Athenee itself is a site worth visiting if you’re ever in the neighborhood. Inside, there is the addition of Alain Ducasse’s elite dining facility; one that looks like nothing you’ll see elsewhere in France — and possibly Europe. 

On average, a set menu here will cost around 350 euros, give or take.

5. Restaurant Guy Savoy in Paris

Based right on Paris’ most famous walking bridge, Guy Savoy wants you in and out in under 90 minutes. That’s right, this spot opens up 5 days a week, for just an hour and a half a day. 

You’re dining experience is in-and-out, with no time wasted or taken for granted. You’ll look over the Eiffel Tower as you eat, and if you’re lucky, the man himself will come to greet you at your table.

6. L’Espadon in Paris

This restaurant is situated inside of the Ritz Hotel, in the north of Paris’ 1st arrondissement. 

The interior is good enough to eat, and you’ll be surprised to find that the space is split into two separate dining spaces. Breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner are all served in different parts of the restaurant, and the team will tantalize you from start to finish. 

Booking is absolutely essential, as is dressing the part.

7. Le Meurice in Paris

This is Alain Ducasse’s other restaurant, and it’s even more expensive than the first. It’s widely known as being one of the most beautiful fine dining establishments in all of Paris, and patrons wait months for a chance to eat here. 

Prices can exceed over 400 euros per person; lest I say it’s worth every penny?

8. Restaurant Pierre Gagnaire in Paris

Pierre Gagnaire was voted the best chef in the world in 2015, and when you visit this restaurant right beside the Arc de Triomphe, you’ll taste all of the dishes that got him the award. 

His restaurants are now found all over the world, so making time to eat at this flagship spot while you’re in Paris is something very special.

9. Lasserre in Paris

If being discreet is of need, then Lasserre is very much used to taking care of business. This is ultra-fine dining like you’ve probably never experienced. 

Spoiler alert, the roof at Lasserre opens right up, revealing the Parisian sky while you dine. Everything they do here is unique and effortless — you’ll see!

10. Benoit in Paris

You’ve not known exclusivity, until you set foot in Benoit. The Michelin star chef has taken something very modern, and turned it into something entirely classic; it’s difficult to put into words, thus I highly recommend a visit. 

If you’re the kind of person who likes to be treated like you’re the only person in the room; this is your spot.

11. Epicure

From its apartments to its spa, from the excellent formal garden to the rooftop pool and dining area with Louis XVI furnishings, mirrors, and big French windows opening into the greenery outside, Epicure located in the opulent 5-star Le Bristol is a realm of ultimate luxury.

This 3 Michelin star restaurant named its restaurant Epicurus after the Greek philosopher who believed in enjoyment in moderation, a principle that chef Éric Frechon lives by: “My grandfather grew vegetables, my father sold them, and I cook them.” He works marvels in an unapologetically conventional approach, leaving nothing to chance. The seasonal dinner costs $350 without wine.

12. L’Ambroisie

L’Ambroisie is a love letter to classical French dining, with no tasting menus or wine flights, just the right servings in three proper courses. L’Ambroisie has been run by chef-owner Bernard Pacaud and his wife Danièle since the 1950s, and it’s known for long-standing classics and superb meals.

Traditional French meals such as frogs’ legs, snails, lobster, veal sweetbreads, and pigeon are served alongside the feuillantine of langoustine with sesame and curry sauce and the hot-cold egg with sorrel, asparagus, and golden caviar.

Allow yourself to get carried away: emotion pours through in every dish, from lobster fricassee with civet sauce and Saint-Germain mousseline to scallops with leeks, potatoes, and truffles to tarte fine sablée with bitter cocoa and vanilla ice cream.

13. Arpège

L’Arpège (often known simply as Arpège) is the fine dining business of renowned chef Alain Passard. The chef is known for actually cooking most days at Arpège. Since 1996, he has had three Michelin stars, and Arpège was named one of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants in 2018.

Vegetables from his three gardens are supplied daily before lunch service and fashioned into platters as beautiful as Versailles. While the emphasis remains on vegetables, meat, and fish are back on the menu after Passard famously converted Arpège to vegetarianism in 2001. It is not without cost though: the evening Earth and Sea tasting menu costs €420 ($470).

14. Le Taillevent

Le Taillevent, a former Duke of Morny palace, is both a recognized destination and the pinnacle of art de vivre. It is not just a restaurant, but the personification of French haute gastronomy in its most generous form, under the watchful supervision of restaurant manager Baudoin Arnould.

Giuliano Sperandio, the new chef, conducts a delicate symphony by reinterpreting classics with evident modernism and purposeful daring. 15. Astrance

Pascal Barbot opened his bijou 16th arrondissement restaurant almost 20 years ago but it still feels at the forefront of contemporary French dining. Barbot trained under the iconic Alain Passard at L’Arpège and co-owns L’Astrance with his colleague from that time, restaurant manager Christophe Rohat.

His time in Sydney and the South Pacific shines through his cooking. Menus change daily but a long-standing favorite is a tart of button mushroom and verjus-marinated foie gras, hazelnut oil, and roasted lemon paste. This fine dining establishment was given three Michelin stars in 2007 and retained them until 2019 when they were reduced to two stars.
