10 Different Cuisines to Eat in Paris

Paris: the city of love, the city of lights, the European melting pot of foreign culture and cuisines.

There are far more than just ten different cuisines to sample while you’re in the French capital. Thirty or more would be a more accurate prediction, considering all the additional island foods that found their way to the shores of this country over the years.

The following are simply my favorite bunch of cuisines that I’ve been pleased to find all over the city. Join me on my one woman journey of eating my way through Paris.

1. Authentic French: Allard in Paris

An old fashioned bistro on the Left Bank of Paris; Allard is where you go once in a while to treat yourself to authentic French cuisine.

Not only is the entire menu traditionally French, they also include all of the bizarre delicacies that have comprised French cooking over centuries. Allard has become a tourist hotspot in the last year or so, so making a reservation is essential. There is no lunch service here.

2. Indian: New Jawad in Paris

There is no better cuisine that is always good for sharing, usually accidentally vegan, accommodating to late night eats, and for the most part entirely gluten free.

Indian food holds a special place in my heart, and New Jawad is the eatery close to the Eiffel Tower that I frequent.

Everything about this restaurant is pleasing; the staff, the prices and the quality make for a simply wonderful lunch or dinner between the Iron Lady and Invalides .

3. Lebanese: La Table Libanaise in Paris

Something I take very seriously is Lebanese food. I’ve found in Europe it very often tends to be made in a hybrid kitchen, sporting flavors from the Middle East despite being inaccurate to Lebanon’s standards.

La Table Libanaise is one of few authentically executed Lebanese restaurants in Paris. It’s deep in the southwest, a mission to get to but really great as a night of shared dining. They also import wine from Lebanon which is great to taste after no doubt consuming ample French wines throughout your trip.

4. Italian: Tesoro d’Italia in Paris

There are actually two branches of this restaurant, and not far from one another either. Tesoro is the wholesome family restaurant making all of the homemade classics you love from Italian cooking.

The pastas are huge, the pizzas are saucy and their tiramisu will have you almost licking the plate.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION
Opening Hours: Monday to Saturday – 11:45pm to 3pm // 6:30pm to 11pm
ADDRESS: 7 Rue Rougemont, 75009 Paris, France

5. Ethiopian: La Reine de Saba in Paris

Having tried almost all of the Ethiopian restaurants in Paris, I can conclude that La Reine de Saba is undoubtably the best.

Making this cuisine authentically so far from the country itself is tricky, given the spices needed for the stews and grans needed for the injera breads. La Reine de Saba will be the best introduction for you to this cuisine outside of Ethiopia itself.

6. Moroccan: Le Marrakech in Paris

Sometimes you just need a pot of mint tea and steaming hot tajine.

Le Marrakech is another African cuisine restaurant that goes to great effort to serve the national dishes as authentically as possible. It’s right by the Place de la Nation, and since it’s perpetual festive it’s a great restaurant in Paris for dining alone.

7. Vegan: Jah Jah By Le Tricycle in Paris

A few years ago in Paris the word “vegan” was completely absurd and beyond comprehension. Today, vegans are spoilt for choice in the city, with an ever expanding industry popping up new eaters every month.

Jah Jah is vegan Jamaican cuisine. It’s an absolute treat, whether you’re a plant eater or not. One of the best concept cafes I’ve seen in a while in Paris.

8. Dim Sum: Chez Ann Paradis in Paris

It’s a big deal in Paris to find an Asian eatery that makes their dumplings fresh by the order, instead of steaming from bulk frozen batches.

One can tell the difference, and if you think you can’t then definitely stop in at Cehz Ann Paradis for dim sum and make the comparison for yourself. It’s situated just below Montmartre; a post free guided walking tour snack, perhaps?

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

Metro STATION: Gare de l’Est

9. Mexican: Luz Verde in Paris

There aren’t a lot of restaurants near the Pigalle strip that I would outright suggest making an effort to eat at, but Luz Verde is always the exception.

They make probably the most authentic Mexican food in Paris, with the execution of a few South American dishes on the menu too. Soft shell tacos, guac and chips, steaming pozole and meaty burritos are a few things on the menu.

Aki looks like a Parisian bistro from the outside, but the cuisine is authentic Japanese comprised of noodle dishes and sushi plates.

Considering its location so close to the Louvre, it is great value for money to eat here.
