Our Recommended 3 Star Hotels in Paris

Traveling to Paris on a budget without compromising many basic luxuries is entirely doable. The city is home to hundreds upon hundreds of affordable accommodation options that don’t relinquish quality for price.

Smaller 3 Star hotels, particularly boutique ones, offer much of the same individual attention you’d receive in a pricier establishment. Thankfully due to the nature of the architecture around Paris, most 3 star hotels exist within already small facilities making the over all experience highly targeted and focused on just a few guests.

Like all accommodation in Paris, which arrondissement to stay in depends largely on what attractions you want to be nearest two. Or furthest from, for that matter.

For some people, the chaos of the Champ de Mars and Eiffel Tower is preferably avoided; and the opt for the quieter streets of a district such as the 14th arrondissement for example.

For others, being in the heart of the chaos is the epitome of a vacation; and districts such as the 1st and 5th arrondissements near the Louvre Museum or Latin Quarter are most enjoyable.

Wherever your preference, there is a 3 star hotel to match. Here are some of our top recommended ones!

1. Hotel Europe Saint Severin in Paris

38-40 rue Saint séverin

This gorgeous little hotel is located just on the Left Bank of the Seine, right where you’d cross to leave the island that Notre Dame sits on.

Raspberry colored balustrades enclose the bottom story of the building providing a welcoming exterior to all who pass by.

The awnings read “hotel”, “pizzeria” and  “bar” in big letters and there is some classic French cafe seating on the street where guests and the public can enjoy the hotel’s hospitality services together.

The rooms at the Hotel Europe Saint Severin are simple and comfortable. The old building features high, slanted ceilings that give the hotel an attic feel. If you were a writer looking for a Parisian hideaway from which to create your next work — this would be the perfect setting.

Enjoy having many of Pari’s main attractions within walking distance to the hotel. Free guided walking tours are popular in this area as the banks of the Seine are great to explore by foot.

2. Hôtel Jeanne d’Arc in Paris

3 Rue de Jarente

Another hotel containing within a beautiful building; the Hôtel Jeanne d’Arc lives on a very quiet street that leads into Le Marais eventually. You’ll see the hotel a mile away with its delicate French doors and blooming flower boxes right to the top floor.

Truth be told this charming hotel probably deserves more than 3 stars. While it’s still within our price range let’s make the most of it shall we!

The interior features a natural color palette finished with soft wood and classic furniture. The rooms are best suited for between two and four people. The compact, vertical nature of the hotel makes it tricky with children, though they are very accommodating.

Due to the quality and overall appeal of this 3 star hotel it tends to book out very quickly. This is also largely due to its location — so close yet just far enough from the wonder that is Le Marais.

The Marais district is one you want to be within walking distance of, yet still far enough away to enjoy a nights rest without hearing the streets below. The neighborhood is busting, with restaurants, galleries, bars and cafes open until all hours of the night.

3. Hotel de la Place du Louvre in Paris

21 Rue des Prêtres Saint-Germain l’Auxerrois

Finding a 3 star hotel in this part of town that won’t break the bank is doable yet scarce. The Hôtel de la Place du Louvre’s name gives it away and the hotel is just a few minutes walk from the entrance of the legendary Louvre Museum in the 1st arrondissement.

In spite of being neat and clean, the real appeal of the hotel is the daily breakfast. It is served in the 14th-century stone-walled cave of “des Mousquetaires”. The cave was actually attached to the Louvre at one stage in history.

It’s a great way to wake up in Paris before heading out and enjoying the rest of what this arrondissement has to offer.

If you aren’t yet familiar, the Louvre Museum on the bank of the Seine River is the world’s largest art museum and is a historical monument in France. You’ll recognize it by the two giant glass pyramids that form the museum’s entrance — both of which you’ll be able to see from your room at the Hôtel de la Place du Louvre.

4. Hotel Delambre in Paris

35 Rue Delambre

The Hotel Delambre is an admirable little passion project that took place in Montparnasse, Paris.

Its founder, Patrick Kalmy, made headlines as he took a near closing one star hotel and transformed it into this 3 star hidden gem that we know today. I don’t use the gem loosely; its surprising at what a low cost you can rent a room in this hotel for.

If you have some budget to spare, ask for the mini suite on the top floor. It boasts exceptional views of Paris and is a great space to make use of even if you don’t fill the four person maximum quota.

The rooms are charming and welcoming; think Parisian countryside meets 19th century class.

The neighborhood that surrounds the hotel is an up and coming one in terms of Parisian tourism. Montparnasse holds much significant historic weight in terms of years gone by within the city.

It is also a district where arts and intellect are celebrated and you’ll find endless galleries and organizations in which to enjoy these aspects.

All in all, Hotel Delambre is a great hotel away from the main chaos of the city center while still existing within walking distance of other notable attractions of the city.

5. Hotel Eiffel Capitol in Paris

9 Rue Viala

Another hotel who’s name gives away all that you need to know, the Hôtel Eiffel Capitol is a quality yet affordable 3 star hotel within walking distance of the heart and soul of Paris: the Eiffel Tower.

The hotel is built into an old Haussmann high-rise. The exterior looks juts like any of the similar architecture would; creme buildings and shallow balconies. Inside the rooms boast modern chic — the entire spectrum of the color wheel is used to make each room unique and different to the next.

Your stay comes with a daily breakfast hosted in the communal area, and though this hotel isn’t very big you are still invited to enjoy the leisure spaces throughout the day as needed.

When staying in a neighborhood such as this, the tendency is not to spend much time indoors anyhow. To see all there is to see requires extensive time outside — a hotel really is just somewhere to rest your head and keep your possessions!

6. Hotel 29 Lepic in Paris

29 Rue Lepic

In my opinion, Montmartre is the neighborhood to stay in when visiting Paris. It is far away enough from the busyness of the centre while still being entirely immersive in the authentic feel of Paris.

Montmartre is a historic part of Paris and the streets were once the playground for the artistic elite who roamed the city during the Bohemian revolution. Much of that spirit still exists and staying in this part of town even for two nights is enough to get it flowing through your own veins for a while.

The Hotel 29 Lepic is built inside of a century old Montmartre building that still contains the original marble and fireplaces from the years lost.

The balconies tower over the rest of the rooftops in the district and you can’t help but feel like the star of some 1920s French film waiting for your long lost lover to appear on the street below.

Keeping with the romance, the hotel is within walking distance from the Musée de la Vie Romantique — a must visit for any new visitor to the city of love!

7. Le Relais du Marais in Paris

76 Rue de Turbigo

Budget and modesty come full force with the Relais hotel chain around Paris. This one in Le Marais is no different and is the perfect 3 star accommodation for anyone looking to save some cash during their stay.

The rooms are small, neat and clean. Great value for money if you are not intending to spend long periods of time in doors.

With this hotel you’ll be in the heart of Le Marais from the minute you step out of the front door. Your one way ticket to all of the excitement that the streets of this district has to offer. Be sure to look out for all of the street artists that live and work around here.

8. Timhotel Montmartre in Paris

11 Rue Ravignan

Back to Montmartre we go for another 3 star hotel experience that should probably be rated slightly more.

The charming space is located right next door to the Bateau Lavoir where Picasso and other iconic Parisian artists once lived. Try stay on the 4th or 5th floor if you can as these have the balconies and you’ll have the same view that the artists did years ago.

This hotel is situated just above the main strip of Pigalle; an eccentric place to take a stroll for a nightcap or sneaky peepshow (no judgement).

If Montmartre is anything, its picturesque. From the hills to the towering Haussmann buildings and cobble stone streets, there is nothing about this suburb that isn’t worth loving. You’ll also be in walking distance to the Sacre Coeur at the top of the hill!

9. Hotel de Lutece in Paris

65 Rue Saint-Louis en l’Île

How lucky you’ll be to stay in this hotel so close by to the famous Notre Dame Cathedral. Starting each day by opening your window to the sounds of the church bells ringing? Beautiful!

You’ll actually be staying right on the island in the Seine upon which the Notre Dame was built. With the river flowing on both sides of you there is really no better view in town.

The space was once a mansion belonging to one of Paris’ wealth aristocrats from early in the century. It was later transformed into the hotel space that it is today and the rooms feature modest interiors with a definite vintage flair.

Modern decor is yet to filter into the walls of the Hotel de Lutece. Enjoy your evenings by the ancient fireplace or challenge a fellow guest to a round of cards.

10. Caron de Beaumarchais in Paris

12 Rue Vieille du Temple

This 18th century style hotel was interestingly enough named after the author of The Marriage of Figaro. You’ll find it in the 4th arrondissement near the heart of Le Marais.

The hotel appears to be stuck in the past but in the best possible way. If you’ve ever walked through Le Marais you may have already noticed it, the wallpaper and printed curtains are very hard to miss.

The Caron de Beaumarchais looks like what I imagine the inside of Mary Poppins’ carpet bag to embody. Mismatched chandeliers, chair covers that match drapery, old artworks all over the show — and that includes inside of the rooms too!

For a slightly different, more thought provoking hotel experience in Paris definitely look into the Caron de Beaumarchais. Celebrate the eccentricities of life.

From the weird and wonderful to the downright modernist chic — 3 star hotel living around Paris is all about your personal taste and how near or far you’d like to be from the city chaos.

I hope the above list has done well to give you an idea of where to direct your booking! Regardless of your living situation, you’re in one of the greatest cities in the world the minute you step outside — revel in that instead!
