One Day trips outside Lisbon

If you’re visiting Lisbon and you want to discover more about Portugal, you can take one day trips outside of Lisbon without the inconvenience of dragging your luggage along (it can stay comfortably in your hotel as you discover the wonders of Portugal). Here are our suggestions of the best one day trips you can take outside of Lisbon.

Óbidos

For the first one day trip outside of Lisbon, I’m suggesting you visit the Óbidos village. This village has been around since before Portugal was a country and it hosts some of the biggest fairs in the country, from medieval fairs to Chocolate festivals. It is a village full of life that you’ll be glad to visit. Here are some of the things to do and visit in Óbidos.

Cascais

A great one day trip outside of Lisbon would include going to the nearby Cascais. By the sea shore, this old fishermen’s village turned European aristocracy’s favorite destination is great fun for you to go and relax by the beach during your stay in Lisbon. From surfing, to eating great fish, here are some things you can do in Cascais.

Nazaré

Famous for its waves and the fish selling women, Nazaré is a day’s outside of Lisbon you’ll enjoy. Whether you’re into surfing and want to catch great waves (international surfers are known to have come to Nazaré especially for the giant waves) or if you want to discover deeper roots of the Portuguese culture, try some good fish and see the traditional dresses of the fish selling women, windy Nazaré will not disappoint.

Fátima

Another one day trip you might want to take outside of Lisbon is one to Fátima. Fátima is the religious center of the country. Place of the miracle of Fátima, where Holy Mary appeared to three little shepherds, this has become the most popular destination for pilgrims in Portugal.

Sintra

Lastly, you might want to take a one day trip outside Lisbon to Sintra. Sintra is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful places you can go to around the city of Lisbon, not only for the nearby beaches, but also for its romantic, history and symbol embedded monuments that take you back to older days and to romantic and mythological stories.
