It features streets with detailed sidewalks, colorful houses, grand architecture, and tree-filled paths that bring historical allure to life. Colmar in France, known for its beautiful canals, might be number one, but Budapest’s Zrínyi Street is also special. Zrínyi Street is in Budapest’s 5th district and connects Saint Stephen’s Cathedral with Széchenyi István Square.

This  street has important landmarks like the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and the Chain Bridge, which unites the two parts of the city. Zrínyi Street’s history goes back to the Reform Era, showing the influence of Pest’s German settlers.

First called Alster Gasse or Magpie Street, it was later named after Julius von Haynau, a notorious Austrian general from the Hungarian War of Independence. Between 1849 and 1860, the street’s name changed to reflect the turbulent times. A transformation occurred in 2007 when Zrínyi Street became a pedestrian-only area, making it more attractive for walking and sightseeing.
