Will Barkleys Prediction Come True?
The highest prospect ever in NBA history after Lebron James is none other than Victor Wembanyama. Victor has been the talk of town for the past year or so and thanks to his extraordinary abilities and size, he has carved a name for himself in the basketball world.
Standing at 7-foot-4 inches and with an 8-foot wingspan, Victor is way gifted in basketball that he is projected to take over the NBA once he gets there.
He is a lethal three-point shooter and possessing such strength, height and athleticism makes him an offensive and defensive threat.
No wonder teams are salivating for the chance to get him and getting the first pick during the draft lottery was many teams’ agenda.
It came true for the San Antonio Spurs who will be getting the first overall pick and as things stand with Victor set to be the first draftee, it looks like Victor is headed to San Antonio.
San Antonio might be the best landing spot for any NBA rookie from playing with an experienced coach Gregg Popovich to blending in the young squad we are certain Wembanyama will blend in well.
Although if he heard the perennial trolls Chuck has been directing the San Antonio way perhaps he might change his excitement of going there in the future.
Charles Barkley has a storied history of trolling San Antonio. The San Antonio Spurs and the city of San Antonio where the franchise is based have yet to win Charles over. He has made fun of the city and its residents on numerous occasions, claiming that they are obese.
He once took a jab at San Antonio after the San Antonio Spurs beat the Indiana Pacers. Charles could not control his running gag and here’s how he joked about it,
“I’ll tell you what, Victor Wembanyama will be great in San Antonio. If he goes to San Antonio, he’ll definitely gain some weight,” Barkley said on NBA On TNT.
“He won’t have to worry about being skinny down there. He won’t have to worry about being skinny in San Antonio. Hey, Victor, go to San Antonio, they’ll put some weight on you.”
It looks like things have started becoming clear and we can’t help but wonder, now that Wembanyama is headed to San Antonio will he add massive body weight as per Barkley’s comment or will he maintain his leaner body?
Standing at 7’4” with a body weight of less than 230 pounds might have instigated Chuck’s comments.
Charles Barkley’s opinion of Victor adding weight might be too extreme as Victor’s camp does not look to add a lot of mass on Wemby too much too soon.
Victor’s agent Bouna Ndiaye has termed the focus on Victor adding the weight a ‘mistake’.
He said; “The weight will come over time, you know, but the focus on weight is a mistake, I’m 100 per cent sure on that. If you put too much weight too quickly on Victor’s body, it’s not going to last. For sure, he will be injury-prone.”
Wemby was recently cited as saying that he has no desire to grow into such a big guy.
According to him, “I don’t see myself becoming, like, a really, really big guy.” This comes in the wake whereby it was revealed that for the past five years, Victor has been eating five times a day to help his muscles keep up with his bones.
Now with five meals and headed to Texas in San Antonio will we finally see Barkley’s prediction come true, will Victor gain weight too fast as per Chuck or will he just live his life the way he wants?
Again, we just have to wait and see.
