Fake Interview By FIBA Irritates French Prospect

By now it’s just a couple of people who do not know who Wembanyama is. Victor is the current hot name in the sports world especially now that the race to the NBA Draft day is getting heated. June 22, 2023, will see teams select the best player they can land to join their respective rosters.

Wemby has garnered attention from most teams thanks to his 7’4” height, 8-foot wingspan and overall style of play which distinguishes him from your ordinary baller.

Dubbed a generational talent, getting to land Wembanyama would be a blockbuster move and it is not only teams that are salivating at the chance to be associated with Wembanyama so are People and Organizations.

In a recent incident, FIBA has been accused of publishing a false interview about Victor. Victor expressed his disappointment in the governing body in his Instagram post where he wrote, “4 days ago, FIBA published a FAKE interview of me. WTF???”

FIBA however had an apt response to it whereby they issued a quick apology to the 19-year-old French International. In their defence, the governing body denied conformity to the since-deleted interview featuring Wembanyama.

To assure Victor, FIBA confirmed it have removed all the posts associated with the interview and the related freelance reporter was also shown the door by the governing body. FIBA continued to wish Wembayama all the best in his upcoming FIBAWC Qualifiers.

FIBA report read,” After doubts were expressed by the player regarding the interview, which was provided to FIBA by a long-time French contributor, the veracity of the interview could not be confirmed.

“FIBA has without delay removed the article and all related social media posts, and has immediately terminated the relationship with the freelance reporter.

“FIBA apologizes to Victor and the French team and wishes them all the best in the forthcoming #FIBAWC qualifiers.”

Not once have we seen people and organizations falsify information about an individual to get clout but this time it surely did backfire on FIBA. Till today we do not know if Victor reached FIBA or not since there is no public detail of any comments directed towards the governing body.

Victor however was a vital part of the France team that secured a top finish in the Group K after rallying France past Lithuania on a 70-63 scoreline.

By playing that game it looks like things are well between the French phenom and the Sport organizing body. But since there is no evidence of reconciliation between the two, fans can’t help but wonder, what happened?
