Rome in Green: March 17th St. Patrick’s Day Celebration

Mark your calendars for the March 17th St Patrick’s Day celebration in Rome. However, celebrations begin on the 15th of March with the climax being on the 17th of March. The celebration will be extra special because it coincides with the first year of Ireland’s new ambassador to the Holy See.

Many questions linger around this famous day but the easiest way to find out is to attend one. This vibrant and colorful event honors the patron saint of Ireland.

The Romans of Irish descent, as well as locals and tourists, will gather in various locations around the city to celebrate their Irish heritage. Locals and visitors alike will get to learn more about the Irish pubs and cultural centers.

The festivities will include traditional Irish music and dance performances. The Irish music band ‘The Shire’ will play traditional tunes at various spots from March 15th to 17th. You can catch them at the Abbey Theatre on Via del Governo Vecchio on March 15th at 7:00 PM, at the Maulbeere in Centocelle on March 16th at 10:00 PM, at the Shamrock on Via del Colosseo on March 17th at 4:00 PM, and later that night at the Nag’s Head at 10:00 PM.

The celebrations will also include parades with elaborate floats and costumes, and diving into Irish food and beverages like corned beef, cabbage, and Guinness beer. Doesn’t it sound like fun?

Additionally, at 9:00 pm, the Colosseum will shine with green lights for Tourism Ireland’s Global Greening project, celebrating its tenth year. Other places like the Leaning Tower of Pisa and St. Patrick’s Well will also be lit up in green.
