Twenty-five years ago, the Italian organization Komen Italia began the Race for the Cure initiative to raise awareness about breast cancer among the public. Today, the organization is about to celebrate twenty-five years of raising awareness and funds to fight the disease in the country and around the world. This year’s race for cure will take place in Rome in the streets of central Rome to allow people to raise funds that will be used to combat breast cancer. On Sunday, May 12, men, women, and children will line up in central Rome to run and raise awareness and funds.
As Wanted in Rome reports, the Italian president will launch the event that will have races in Rome and other cities in the country, including Bologna, Bari, and Matera. On this day, there are three categories, such as the five-kilometer noncompetitive run, a two-kilometer walk, and a competitive five-kilometer race.
The Race for the Cure is beyond an ordinary race. This is an opportunity for people to know their health status when it comes to cancer. There are several spots in the city offering free health services such as free full-body screenings, fitness classes, and free cancer education.
Ultimately, the funds raised during the sporting event are channeled to cancer research and support programs to help women live cancer-free. Everyone is welcome to be part of the event by registering online with a minimum donation of fifteen euros or above.
