Pride in London, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and celebrating the LGBTQ+ communities in the capital, is gearing up for its annual flagship event, Pride in London. This vibrant and monumental celebration provides a platform for individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, questioning, intersex, non-binary, asexual, polysexual, genderqueer, or gender variant.

Scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 29, 2024, the Pride in London event is expected to draw a crowd of 1.5 million people. The procession will kick off at 12 pm from Hyde Park Corner, featuring an impressive display of 300 floats and over 30,000 participants. The parade route, mirroring that of the previous year, will see the procession making its way through Park Lane, Piccadilly, Haymarket, Trafalgar Square, and concluding in Whitehall. To ensure the comfort and safety of attendees, the route will be equipped with essential facilities such as toilets and first aid stations.

According to the Londonist, throughout the route, attendees can look forward to lively performances, including drag shows, cabaret acts, musical performances, and more, at various stages located in Golden Square, Trafalgar Square, Leicester Square, and Dean Street in Soho. Additionally, there will be a dedicated family area at St Giles-in-the-Field, offering a welcoming space for families to partake in the festivities.

The roots of Pride in London can be traced back to the first official Gay Pride march held on July 1, 1972. While earlier marches took place in Highbury Fields in 1970, the 1972 parade, inspired by the events of Stonewall in New York City, attracted 2,000 participants who marched from Trafalgar Square to Hyde Park for a picnic, armed with banners, tambourines, balloons, and whistles. Since then, Pride in London has grown into a vital and cherished tradition, symbolising unity, diversity, and inclusivity within the LGBTQ+ community.
