As tourism in the Czech capital continues to boom, savvy visitors are looking beyond typical tourist trinkets for meaningful souvenirs that truly represent the city’s rich culture and craftsmanship. While classic keepsakes like Bohemian crystal and marionette puppets remain popular, a new wave of artisanal and locally-made products is emerging to meet demand for authentic Prague mementos.
“Tourists don’t just want a generic ‘I Love Prague’ t-shirt anymore,” says the owner of a boutique gift shop in Old Town. “They’re interested in items with a story behind them – things made here by local artists and craftspeople.”
The shop specializes in handmade goods from small Czech producers, including jewelry made from Czech garnets, hand-painted ceramics and eco-friendly tote bags printed with Prague street scenes. “These products allow visitors to take home a real piece of Prague,” she explains.
Indeed, the city’s souvenir landscape is evolving to highlight Czech design, sustainability, and traditional craftsmanship. Here are some of the top trends and unique finds for visitors looking to bring home a slice of Prague:
Artisanal Food & Drink
Food-loving travellers can find plenty of tasty souvenirs that showcase Czech culinary traditions. Specialty food shops offer vacuum-packed Prague ham and sausages, for instance Pernickuv sen sells beautifully decorated gingerbread cookies. For liquid souvenirs, look beyond mass-market beers to small-batch spirits like Becherovka herbal liqueur or Prague-distilled gin.
“We’re seeing more interest in artisanal food products as souvenirs,” notes Pavel Maurer, a local food critic. “Things like small-batch preserves, locally-roasted coffee, or craft beer samplers let people literally get a taste of Prague at home.”
Sustainable & Eco-Friendly Goods
As travellers become more environmentally conscious, demand is growing for sustainable souvenirs. Some places focus on upcycled and zero-waste products, from tote bags made from repurposed fabrics to wooden toys crafted from fallen tree branches.
“People want souvenirs that align with their values,” explains Lenka Kralova. “These products let them support local makers while also being kinder to the planet.”
Other eco-friendly finds include beeswax food wraps, reusable coffee cups decorated with Prague landmarks, and beauty products in plastic-free packaging.
Modern Takes on Traditional Crafts
While classic Czech handicrafts remain popular, many artisans are giving traditional techniques a contemporary twist. At Pragtique, visitors can find modern jewelry incorporating traditional Czech glass beads, or laptop sleeves made from hand-loomed wool fabrics.
“We’re bridging the gap between old and new,” says Pragtique’s creative director, Martin Hruska. “Our products honour Czech craft traditions but in a way that feels fresh and relevant to today’s consumers.”
Other examples include minimalist pottery inspired by traditional Czech ceramics, or scarves that blend folk embroidery motifs with modern designs.
Literary-Inspired Souvenirs
Given Prague’s rich literary history, it’s no surprise that book-related souvenirs are trending. The Franz Kafka Bookstore offers Kafka-themed gifts like notebooks printed with quotes from his works. Meanwhile, Shakespeare & Sons bookstore stocks Prague-centric reads in English as well as literary-inspired artwork.
“A book makes for a great souvenir – it lets you continue discovering Prague even after you’ve left,” says Shakespeare & Sons manager Sarah Wilson. “We curate our selection to include both classic Prague literature and contemporary Czech authors in translation.”
Handmade Cosmetics & Wellness Products
Natural beauty products are another growing souvenir category. Local brand Manufaktura produces soaps, lotions and bath products using traditional Czech ingredients like beer and thermal spring salts. For a truly unique gift, Aroma Praha creates custom perfumes blended on-site.
Other wellness-oriented souvenirs include herbal tea blends, locally-made essential oils and handcrafted aromatherapy candles.

While the evolving souvenir scene offers exciting options for visitors, it also presents challenges for sellers. “It can be hard to compete with mass-produced trinkets on price,” admits a shopowner. “But we find that many tourists are willing to pay a bit more for something trully special and locally-made.”
For their part, city tourism officials are working to promote Prague’s artisanal souvenir options. “We want to showcase the incredible creativity of our local makers,” says Barbora Hruba of Prague City Tourism. “These unique products add value to the visitor experience and support our local economy.”
As Prague continues to draw record numbers of tourists, the souvenir industry looks set to keep evolving. “There will always be a place for classic souvenirs,” says food critic Pavel Maurer. “But it’s exciting to see new options that really capture the spirit of modern Prague.”
For travellers, that means more meaningful mementos to choose from – and the satisfaction of supporting local artisans and entrepreneurs. The best souvenirs tell a story thus visitors to leave with items that will always remind them of their time in our beautiful city.
