Prague’s Illuminated Fountain Spectacle in Wenceslas Square Runs Through Summer

Visitors can catch sight of the beauty and fun of Wenceslas Square’s illuminated fountain this summer. Located on the lower part of the square at Můstek, the fountain began its 2024 summer season on May 29. This spectacle will open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. until mid-October, depending on weather conditions.

Moreover, it resumes operations following the completion of regular maintenance works. This process involved electrical inspections and cleaning of surface and underground parts.

Visitors to Wenceslas Square will enjoy cooling and relaxation throughout the summer season. The fountain was constructed to serve as a recreational and calming feature. It was launched in May 2022 and is the work of architect Petr Kučera.

“Just like last year, the illuminated water jets will enliven Wenceslas Square day and night. This summer, the fountain will offer cooling and relaxation in the heart of the city for both residents and visitors. It will remain in operation until mid-October, depending on weather conditions. Starting next spring, we plan to resume operations in May,” explained Michal Hroza, head of Prague City Infrastructure Council in a press release.

Beyond cooling and relaxation, the fountain’s beauty is admirable. Its water jets go as high as 2 to 5 meters up. Besides, the reflectors embedded in these jets bring out a stunning view at night. The fountain sits on 16 square meters and is made up of 16 jet sets. Each set is fitted with an LED reflector and embedded on a walkable granite surface.

Moreover, the jets are operated by a computerized system in recirculation mode. This ensures ecological and energy-efficient operation. The water supply is serviced by a 2,000-liter storage tank based on an underground shaft.
