We’re only a few months away from the 2024 Olympics, and the host city Paris is preparing for a large influx of visitors.
The French capital has launched a special transportation pass that will provide sports fans with unlimited access to all Olympic and Paralympic venues throughout the city during the Games.
According to Île de France Mobilités, the ‘Paris 2024’ travel pass is aimed at visitors and will make their trips around the city more convenient.
How will the transportation pass work?
The pass is currently only available for purchase as a physical card but will be available in app form in mid-June.
The pass will cost €16 for one day and €70 for the entire week. All cards require an initial one-time fee of €2.
During the Games, prices are expected to rise throughout Paris, including the transportation network.
The Paris Metro, bus, tram, and RER trains will all double in price, but this will not affect residents who already have travel passes or those who purchased the ‘Paris 2024’ pass in advance.
When people attending the Games arrive in Paris, their transportation will be covered by the pass.
Where to use the pass?
Journeys to and from Paris’ Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports are included, which is a plus because they are typically not covered by the majority of standard travel passes or tickets.
Many of the sports venues are located outside of the city center, such as athletics at the Stade de France and diving at the Aquatics Center in Saint-Denis. Equestrian events and canoeing will take place even further out, at the Palace of Versailles and the Vaires-sur-Marne water park, respectively.
The passes imply that travel to all venues will be included in one price.
To obtain one of these, you must first create an account on the Île-de-France Mobilités website, even if you already have one.
The passes can be delivered to up to 50 countries, with organizers estimating a delivery time of no more than 10 days.
If you want the pass in digital form, you must wait until June to apply.
