Man City Beats Man United in FA Finals closing one step away from the Treble

To get one step closer to the treble, Manchester City won the FA Cup.

At Wembley, Manchester United faced deserving opposition, but their neighbors ultimately prevailed. Their success can be attributed to Ilkay Gundogan, who scored both of his team’s goals—one in each half—to steal the show.

Gundogan’s volleyed goal gave City an early lead, but they were unable to extend their lead. VAR gave United a way back into the game after penalizing Jack Grealish for a handball, and Bruno Fernandes took advantage of the opportunity to tie the score.

Gundogan again stepped up as his errant volley eluded David de Gea with the game hanging in the balance and United intent on pulling off an unexpected victory. In stoppage time, the woodwork was struck as Erik ten Hag’s team continued to press. Alejandro Garnacho, who had just entered the game, showed that he was a live wire.

But in this case, Pep Guardiola would turn out to be the victorious coach, with the championship cup final to follow in a week.

Treble Hopes is on

After defeating their opponents at Wembley, City is just 90 minutes away from the treble, and all eyes are now on Istanbul.

Guardiola’s team is prevented from achieving a special position in history by Inter Milan. Whether or whether United could stop the Etihad juggernaut and maintain their own record as the only English team to win the triple was one of the primary stories going into the championship game.

Despite not being at their best, City continued their winning streak after putting together a remarkable run to win the Premier League. With the pressure mounting and expectations being kept in check, those on the blue side of Manchester may never have had a greater opportunity to win the triple.

Gundogan on fire

How on earth could they let him go? The German keeps creating huge opportunities, and he scored a brace at Wembley to lead City to the FA Cup.

His contract has continued to expire, and it’s supposedly the length of the contract that’s causing friction between him and the City administration. Gundogan is perhaps in the finest shape of his trophy-filled career and shows no signs of slowing down. He is ready to produce for seasons to come.

With the scores tied in the second half, the German was able to secure himself a place in FA Cup history and then produced another moment from outside the box. While his goal may not go down as one of his best, it was undoubtedly one of his most significant.

Historic Fastest Goal in FA Finals

Gundogan scored the FA Cup final goal in the shortest time ever and did so in an unorthodox City fashion.

Within 15 seconds of kickoff, the German was celebrating as Guardiola’s team moved from being behind to ahead in a flash, resulting in their captain’s spectacular first-time strike that left David de Gea rooted to the spot. For a squad whose best opportunities were always going to be on the break, it was the worst conceivable start.

In the meantime, this City team further cemented their place in cup final history. They defeated Watford four years ago with the joint-largest margin of victory in history, completing the domestic treble in the process. They scored the quickest goal in a championship in 2023.

 De Gea’s final dance?

The Spanish player’s future has been in the news a lot lately because his Old Trafford contract is coming to an end and his future is uncertain. In the final game of the regular season, he received an individual award for having recorded the most clean sheets.

He is already aware that he would play one more time at Wembley, but he surely didn’t anticipate having to pull the ball out of his net after just 20 seconds. In the second half, De Gea would ultimately have to take the ball out of his net once more.

Following a period in which he dominated the club’s Player of the Year award, De Gea’s mistakes have become more frequent. One of the club’s modern-day greats is being linked to a move away as his shortcomings with the ball at his feet have been made clear as Ten Hag attempts to modify the way his team plays.
