If you are a true basketball fan then by now you must have heard about Victor Wembanyama. Wembanyama is currently the highest prospect ever since 2003 going to the NBA.

The last player to get the type of hype Wembanyama is getting is the legendary LeBron James when he was getting into the league two decades ago.

It took 20 years for someone of LeBron calibre to come around! No wonder the NBA scoring leader has referred to Wembanyama as more of an alien than a unicorn.

LeBron said, “Everybody has been a unicorn over the last few years, but he’s more like an alien. No one has ever seen anyone as tall as he is but as fluid and as graceful as he is out on the floor.

Everybody must have noticed Wembanyama’s greatness recently thanks to the exhibition games Metropolitans 92 had with NBA G League’s Ignite back in October 2022 where Wembanyama was the highlight.

With all the publicity Victor is getting, Nicolas Batum says it is only now that people are catching up to the Wembanyama wave and the young lad has been in his element for a long time, a thing he saw when Wemby was only 14 years old.

Speaking to ANDSCAPE, the Los Angeles Clippers power forward said,” I saw this 14-year-old kid walking and I said, Hold up. Let me watch this kid play.

I saw him moving, dribbling and I called Tony Parker right away and said, We got to get this guy Victor Wembanyama. For anyone listening, I have been telling people during the last four years about him. They’re listening now.”

Batum insists that he saw the talent early in the 14-year-old Wembanyama and knew he was destined for greatness. Tony Parker finalized the deal to get Wemby to ASVEL which was a good stepping stone for the budding athlete.

Now Wembanyama is a household name and he is predicted to take over the NBA when he gets in. He will also be the highest pick to be drafted from France as he is projected to be selected first.

All the comments from Batum leave fans asking, Could we see a Batum-Wembanyama linkup?

That would be a mad French connection that would wreak havoc in the NBA but the odds to get the first overall pick do not seem to favour the Clippers.

Detroit Pistons, San Antonio Spurs and the Houston Rockets all have a 14% chance to land the first pick in the 2023 NBA draft but the order to follow will be determined on May 16, 2023, during the NBA draft lottery.

Most of us would like to see Batum team up with Wembanyama in the NBA but the game where the two go up against each other would be more sensational.

Talk about Idols becoming rivals… in a basketball game though. Let us wait and see how things play out.
