Music enthusiasts can celebrate the 21st edition of the United Islands of Prague festival, which opened on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at 2 pm. The event will run up to around 11 pm Saturday, May 4.
The festival will transform Prague’s islands and ten city clubs into a lively stage for musical discovery. Visitors can expect four days full of music from countless Czech and European artists. It also aims to celebrate twenty years of the Czech Republic in the European Union. The best part is that admission remains free for all visitors.
Besides music, the festival will have diverse engaging activities including workshops, lectures, live podcasts, talks, and sports events. This year’s event will host performances across 23 stages. The popular open-air concerts will take place on Střelecký Island, Slovanský Island near Žofín, and Janáček Embankment. The ten participating clubs will also host club night performances that participants can look forward to.
Moreover, for the first time, the festival will expand its reach to some city neighborhoods. Such as Ďáblice, Holešovice, Palmovka, Anděl, and Jižní město.
There is More That Comes With This Festival
The official opening ceremony on May 1 took place on Střelecký Island and was graced by top government leadership including Czech President Petr Pavel. Other executives were the European Commission’s Representatives and ambassadors from various European countries.
Moreover, there will be a special tram stop known as “Evropa” to ensure easy access to the festival’s venue. The “Evropa” stop will operate at the Legion Bridge (Most Legií), offering direct access to Střelecký Island. This stop will cater to all tram lines crossing the bridge.
Furthermore, the bridge will be closed to car traffic on the expected high attendance days like Wednesday and Saturday. The Janáček Embankment from Jazz Dock to Vítězná Street will also remain closed to vehicle traffic on Saturday, May 4.
