London Transport Faces Severe Disruption as Commuters Urged to Find Alternative Routes

Passengers travelling on the West Coast main line between Birmingham and London over the early May bank holiday are being advised to check their travel plans before setting out. According to the latest reports, track and drainage improvements are being made on the West Coast main line to help make journeys more reliable for both passengers and freight services in the future.

According to Network Rail, the ongoing work on the Chiltern Railways route between Aylesbury and Marylebone will also be affected due to continuing HS2 work in the area. This means that passengers travelling between Coventry and Birmingham New Street will experience some changes in travel plans, as trains will be diverted and rail replacement buses will be in operation from Saturday 4th to Monday 6th May. This is due to the replacement of 400 metres of drainage in the Berkswell area.

Furthermore, Euston station will be closed to mainline train services on Sunday 5th May while major track upgrades take place at Wembley, Leighton Buzzard and Stafford. As a result, trains to and from the south on the West Coast main line will start and finish at Milton Keynes.

The improvements on the Chiltern Railways route between Aylesbury and Marylebone will also cause changes to journeys between Great Missenden and Aylesbury on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th May. This is due to HS2 engineers working to prepare for a new 350m viaduct being built over the existing railway in Wendover.

All train operators, including Avanti West Coast, Chiltern Railways, CrossCountry, West Midlands Railways and London Northwestern Railways are advising passengers to plan ahead and check before they travel as journeys may take longer, there might be fewer available seats, and they may need to use rail replacement buses.
