According to a recent YouGov survey, Brits have voted for their favourite UK city, and the capital has lost out to York this year. York came top thanks to scoring a staggering 74% of the vote, beating London which dropped down to third place on the list.
York, a city in northern England, saw a whopping 8.9 million visitors come to the city in 2022, with just under 3 million people visiting the city according to the York Tourism Board. The city has plenty to see and do, with the National Railway Museum, York Castle and York Minister being just some of the attractions to name a few.
According to the Daily Express, the research found that 63% of people only had a positive opinion of London, while 17% of participants said they disliked the city, and another 20% had no opinion of London at all. However, this follows London being rated the best city in Europe for 2024 by Resonance Consultancy last month.
Despite the Covid lockdowns and economic devastation, London was still able to top all three of Resonance Consultancy’s overall indices: Livability, Lovability, and Prosperity. The city is top of mind for students, foreign investors, and tourists, all eager to get back out and plug into a place that remains a top destination.
