Elon Musk’s Documents Subpoenaed In JPMorgan Lawsuit
As per a filing made on Monday 15th May, Elon Musk has been subpoenaed. The lawsuit accuses JPMorgan of facilitating the late Jeffrey Epstein’s human trafficking operation in the US Virgin Islands.
According to the filings, the subpoena was issued by the Virgin Islands on April 28. The filing also suggests the reason is that the Twitter and Tesla CEO might have been referred to JPMorgan by Epstein.
Musk is expected under the subpoena to provide all documents pertaining to any communication between him, JPMorgan, and Jeffrey Epstein. The Virgin Islands, however, did not elaborate on why it was interested in seeking documents from Mr. Musk.
Mr. Musk, however, did not hide his disdain for being linked with the sex offender and made it clear in an angry and carefully worded tweet.
The tweet read, “This is idiotic on so many levels:1. That cretin never advised me on anything whatsoever. 2. The notion that I would need or listen to financial advice from a dumb crook is absurd. 3. JPM let Tesla down ten years ago, despite having Tesla’s global commercial banking business, which we then withdrew. I have never forgiven them.”
This is not the first time Elon Musk has faced and fought links to Jeffrey Epstein. He has repeatedly denied knowing Epstein’s associate Ghislaine Maxwell.
The link between Musk and Maxwell is a photo of the pair at a 2014 Vanity Fair party. In response to a tweet that featured this photo last year, Musk claimed he was photobombed.
“You should ask them [Vanity Fair] why they invited her,” Musk wrote. “The same people who push this photo say nothing about prominent people who actually went to his [Epstein’s] island a dozen times,” Mr. Musk added.
The court filing also revealed that authorities had tried severally in the past to subpoena Musk but had failed. The Virgin Islands asked a Manhattan federal court judge to allow it to serve Mr. Musk with the subpoena with Tesla’s registered agent. This was done after their attempt to subpoena Musk’s counsel failed.
The US Virgin Islands has served separate subpoenas to Google co-founder Sergey Brin, Hyatt Hotels chairman Thomas Pritzker, media and real estate magnate Mortimer Zuckerman, and Hollywood super-agent Michael Ovitz.
These subpoenas have an unclear purpose. However, the US Virgin Islands has claimed that Epstein introduced wealthy clients to the bank in addition to depositing his personal money at JPMorgan.
JPMorgan has been charged with failing to act on warning signs regarding the alleged crimes by the Virgin Islands authorities. JPMorgan has since refuted these charges.
