Istanbul Tourism Alert: A New ‘Century of Tourism’ Plan Unveiled

Turkey’s tourism players are making big moves to supercharge the industry for the decades ahead. This ambitious “Tourism Century” initiative kicks off immediately. ​To maintain Turkey’s status as a world-class destination while massively increasing tourist numbers and revenues.

Turkey Travel Agencies Association  (TÜRSAB) with other investors  revealed its bold “Tourism Century” vision at a major conference in Istanbul. This roadmap reimagines and reinvigorates Turkey’s entire tourism approach for the 21st century.

TÜRSAB President Firuz Bağlıkaya stated the plan’s central goal: “Making Turkey the world’s most exceptional destination by elevating our offerings across every category.” He emphasized increasing tourism revenues  by 2033.

So how will this tourism transformation unfold? Major investments in promoting Turkey more aggressively worldwide are just the start. Hundreds of new facilities and attractions will be developed nationwide, with a special focus on Istanbul’s rich cultural heritage.

TÜRSAB’s most eye-catching proposal renovates and reopens long-underutilized historic sites. This 19th century mansion boasts an ideal location near the Hagia Sophia and will be repurposed as an upscale “heritage hotel.”

The former Italian Prison on Büyükada island could also find new life as a boutique hotel and museum celebrating Turkey’s archaeological treasures. Increased English-language museum guides and tourism training programs will better accommodate global visitors too.
