The Istanbul Congress Center stands as a state-of-the-art events facility. It features an impressive  flexible event spaces. This includes a striking main hall with a capacity for over 3,000 attendees. The venue hosted 67* (each meeting is held over many days) international events in 2022 alone.

The city’s rich history and cosmopolitan character are huge draws. “After full days of meetings, our guests loved exploring Istanbul’s blend of Asian and European cultures through its cuisine, architecture and friendly locals,” noted Ahmed Khaled, who planned an industrial trade show in Istanbul.

Istanbul’s MICE Boom Stimulates Local Economy

As the influx of MICE groups continues, the hosted events are emerging as lucrative revenue generators for Istanbul’s hospitality and tourism sectors. Large conventions act as economic catalysts pumping millions into the local economy while showcasing Istanbul globally.

“Our convention of 4,500 attendees over four nights pumped an estimated million into Istanbul’s economy through hotel bookings, dining, shopping and tours,” stated Kim Patel, organiser of a medical technology symposium.

City authorities recognise the immense tourism potential. They have launched initiatives training hospitality staff in languages like Mandarin to better accommodate international MICE groups.

Looking Ahead

Istanbul’s strategic vision aims to elevate the city to the ranks of major MICE event destinations like Barcelona and Singapore within the next decade. Investments in new infrastructure, promotional campaigns and lucrative bidding for major events are ongoing priorities.

“Istanbul possesses unlimited potential for the MICE tourism sector given its east-west connectedness, heritage assets and robust investment in modern facilities,” commented Ahmet Baki, CEO of the Istanbul Convention Bureau. “The future looks incredibly bright.”

As Istanbul rides a wave of success in attracting business events and exhibitions, all indicators signal this former capital of empires is reclaiming its status as a crossroads for the meetings world.
