Glamorous Tram Terminus Takes Centerstage in Barcelona

Plaça de les Glòries Square has rolled out a shiny new addition to Barcelona’s public transit network.

After over two years of construction, the major transport interchange is now home to a state-of-the-art tram station serving the T4, T5, and T6 lines.

The new stop, located right in front of the Glòries metro station, marks a big step towards connecting Barcelona’s entire seven-line tramway through the city center. And locals and visitors alike are already raving about the seamless transfers it provides.

“Now you just leave the metro and hop on straight to the tram. It’s so efficient!” exclaimed Víctor Villarejo, a university student who was one of the first to use the new hub after it opened recently.

Glòries has long been a key intersection for Barcelona’s trains, metros, and buses. But the addition of tram lines adds a whole new layer of convenience and connectivity to this vital transport nexus in the heart of the city.

While lines T1 through T3 serve Barcelona’s southern communities like Esplugues and Cornellà de Llobregat, the new station links up the T4, T5, and T6 routes that run through the northern part of the city and municipalities like Badalona.

The Blue Line hasn’t been in operation since 2018, but this new hub at Glòries Square represents the first phase of an ambitious plan to unify all the tram lines along Diagonal Avenue by late 2024.

Located just steps from the Design Hub Barcelona museum, the sleek modern station has already become a transit landmark in this bustling urban district. Gone are the days of having to go to separate stops to catch different tram routes.
