The Met Gala is easily classified as the most prominent fashion occasion of the year, and this year, 2023, the event did not disappoint. The show is extremely high class, with strict rules and not everybody is permitted to go, even I know that. In fact, there has been quite a fuss about the rule breaking that took place at the red carpet event by no other than Doja Cat.

She has had the entertainment industry on a wild roller-coaster after she was caught vaping during the 2023 met gala. Could this result to a permanent ban from the met gala?  Curious to know about the rules, well, one of the most known rules is that each year there is a theme guiding what attendees should wear at the event.

Second, only the most prominent celebrities and business insiders receive invitations to the event, making the guest list extremely exclusive, I know, sad for us huh! The event also has a stringent no-phone rule in place, and visitors are required to hand over their gadgets when they arrive, this is the most broken rule following other celebrities in the past taking selfies in places like the washrooms.

These guidelines are in place to make sure that the Met Gala continues to be a prestigious, exclusive event that is really appreciated and admired by both the public and the fashion industry in every year. The Grammy-nominated singer, whose true name is Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, made her Met Gala debut wearing an arresting cat-like ensemble to imitate Lagerfeld’s well-known cat, with fake facial features, Choupette, a custom Oscar de la Renta gown.

To be honest, I thought her entire look was a bit confusing and also not on theme. She had a lot going on with the cat features and her decision to meow her way through an interview was too much. Only because the cat belonged to Karl does not mean it was on theme.

The ban has not been made official but during an interview on “CBS Mornings,” when asked about the “best way to never be invited back again,” both the editor-in-chief of Vogue and museum curator Andrew Bolton replied, “Smoking.” This interview was done on Monday and it does not look pretty for Doja.

I personally commend the singer’s audacity to take out her vape and actually use it but let’s just say it was a bold move at the wrong time. Many are quick to defend the singer for violating the event’s customs claiming she was vaping and no smoking but I think it was quite inappropriate. Let’s call a spade a spade; she violated the rules now she has to face the consequences.

The MTV Video Music Award winner has previously had allegations of addiction because she has been caught using it under really inappropriate circumstances. This was a similar circumstance having been caught on camera exhaling a smoke as she was waiting to be interviewed by Emma Chamberlain on the red carpet at Vogue and the video has gone viral.  

Whether the device only produced flavored water vapour and not nicotine the bottom line is she breached a crucial rule knowing that Anna Wintour has an extremely strict no smoking policy.  Users criticized her actions on Twitter, calling them “trashy” and “weird,” and some speculated that she might not be invited to upcoming events. Doja Cat hasn’t responded to the criticism despite it.

The Met Gala has surely long been renowned for its strict guidelines and observance of proper fashion protocol and this incident serves as a reminder that even celebrities have a hard time following the rules. Even so, the Met Gala will remain a venue will remain a classy and high class event.
