Elizabeth Holmes Begins 11-Year Sentence
Disgraced MedTech entrepreneur, Elizabeth Holmes, reported to a federal prison in Texas on Tuesday 30th May 2023.
The mother of two, arrived at F.P.C. Bryan prison in a Ford Expedition that as per reports was driven by her mother, Noel Holmes. The New York Times also speculates that her father, Christian Holmes was inside the car.
She entered the facility wearing jeans, glasses, and a sweater, and carrying some papers while escorted by some prison officials.
After she arrived at the prison, a spokesman of the minimum-security prison confirmed her arrival. According to Yahoo Finance, the spokesperson went so far as to disclose Elizabeth’s Bureau of Prisons register number.

About Elizabeth Holmes’ New ‘Home’
F.P.C. Bryan is an all-women minimum-security prison camp. It is located about 100 miles (160km) north of Holmes’ hometown, Houston.
The prison has 655 inmates who can work n the cafeteria or in a manufacturing facility. Therefore, the former Theranos CEO who received comparison to Steve Jobs will be working alongside other inmates for between 12 cents (10p) and $1.15 (93p) an hour.
However, before getting assigned a task, she is set to take a test to assess her strengths. More so given her past, she will be assessed for business, clerical, numerical, logic, mechanical, and social skills.
The prison handbook states, “We try to help our ladies obtain work in the factory which focuses on their strengths so they may develop additional marketable skills.”
Like other prisoners, Miss Holmes will dress in prison-issued khaki pants and shirts in pastel green, gray, or white, along with sports shoes that cannot cost more than $100. She won’t have access to the internet, but she can purchase a radio or an MP3 player from the commissary for $88.40 and $31.75, respectively. The prison’s manual specifies that all music must be “non-explicit.”
About Her Sentence
In 2022, Elizabeth Holmes was found guilty of four counts of wire fraud and conspiracy. This was due to Theranos making misleading claims that their blood tests could identify a number of diseases with only a few drops of blood.
Together with her former business partner Ramesh Balwani, she is required to repay $452 million in investor losses.
The ruling was made by San Jose federal district court judge Edward Davila. Judge Davila sentenced her to 11 years and three months.
A decision that Holmes and her lawyers have appealed severally, including n April when the judge denied her request to remain free on bail while an appeal of her case plays out in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.
While Holmes was sentenced to 11 years, there is a great possibility that she will not serve the entirety of the sentence. According to The Wall Street Journal, many inmates at the Bryan facility are released early.
This is mostly thanks to good conduct from an inmate as well as participation in prison programs. Being in prison presents a problem since Holmes is a mother of two. Will she be able to see her children?
Those allowed to visit her, her children being top of the list, will be able to do so during the prison’s visitation hours. “A brief kiss, embrace, and/or handshake are allowed only upon arrival and departure,” according to the facility’s rules.
