FIFA 23 TOTW 27 won’t be released as the TOTS promo continues

Because the FIFA 23 Team of the Season (TOTS) promotion is in full swing, there will be no TOTW 27 squad released in Ultimate Team this week.

Team of the Week promotions have been a feature in the popular Ultimate Team game mode since FIFA 10, with EA Sports presenting the best-performing players from the previous week with a special improved TOTW player item. The classic black and gold card used to be one of the most sought-after goods in Ultimate Team, but with the volume of promotions issued in the previous few FIFA games, including FIFA 23, TOTW products have lost their worth as a FIFA cycle nears its finish.

The days of paying hundreds of thousands of coins for an 83-rated in-form Theo Walcott in FIFA 23 are long gone, with this card likely costing no more than the discard price. And, for the first time in FIFA 22, EA has paused the release of TOTW squads due to a lack of relevance.

And now, EA has done the same in FIFA 23, but even earlier than before.

EA has stopped distributing TOTW squads in FIFA 23, as it did in FIFA 22, with TOTW 26 being the final TOTW squad announced. In reality, TOTW 26 was the final TOTW squad ever produced in an EA Sports FIFA game, with EA soon moving on to their new title EA Sports FC.

Team of the Week releases are likely to remain in EA FC, though we wouldn’t be surprised if the promotion is redesigned significantly. To be honest, other than being utilized as SBC criteria, few FUT players have any need for TOTW products unless it’s one of the huge ones like Kylian Mbappe.

And, with TOTW players appearing as Player Picks in the FUT Champions rewards, it can be difficult to justify playing all 20 games just to earn an 84-rated TOTW you’ll never use. Because of the TOTS promo that is currently running in FUT, FUT Champions prizes have been modified, with Player Picks now including TOTS items rather than TOTW, demonstrating once again that they aren’t required at this point in the game.

Every week, new promos are added to FIFA 23, and the power curve and meta are continually updated. TOTW items are beneficial in the first few weeks after the game’s debut, but the promotion sorely needs an update, with 90% of the in-forms becoming old and useless within a few months.
