Traveling can be exciting, but navigating a busy airport can definitely add stress to one’s trip. A recent ranking by StressFreeCarRental.com revealed the airports in Europe most likely to test a traveler’s patience. The ranking was based on five stress-inducing factors. These were passenger volume, departure delays, distance from the city center, car parking charges and number of flight destinations.
Lisbon airport claimed 7th spot, handling over 33 million passengers every year. Its departure delay score was 2.3 out of 5. It was however ranked closest to the city center, at only 13.12 kilometers away. Travelers flying to and through the airport can however utilize some tips to minimize stress such as planning for delays when booking connecting flights or ground transportation, pre-booking taxis where appropriate to do so and exploring off-site parking with more affordable rates.
Charles de Gaulle airport in France topped the list as the most stress-inducing, with a high number of passengers and high departure delay score. It also has an expensive car parking charge at €100 for a week.
The rest of the top 10 airports are Schiphol, Heathrow, Rome, Athens, Madrid, Lisbon, Dublin, Berlin and Zagreb in that order. Zagreb in Croatia had a departure delay score of 1.4 out of five, and is only 22.04 kilometers from the city center.
