The Easter spirit in Prague kicks off with the opening of Easter markets running from Saturday, March 16, to Sunday, April 7. A bust of Springtime colors, Czech delicacies, over 1500 performers, and many sales stand exhibitions are expected in this year’s Easter market festivities.
In anticipation of the Easter markets opening, Prague Mayor Bohuslav Svoboda sends a message of kindness to all Prague residents. He encourages them to show kindness to one another during the Easter festivities.
“These markets are not just about celebrating Easter and spring, but also about promoting environmental awareness and supporting local charities,” said Eva Poláčková.
According to a press release issued on March 11, the main markets in the Old Town and Wenceslas Square will attract over 1,500 artists and artistic performers from across Europe.
“These markets are one of the first signs of spring in our city, bringing with it traditions that belong to it. A record number of performers will perform at the markets, this year there will be more than 1,500 artists from all over Europe,” said Libor Votruba.
These remarks were made by the chairman of the board of directors of Taiko, Libor Votruba. Taiko is the organizer of the Easter markets.
Embracing Sustainable Decorations
The organizers of this year’s celebrations are walking the talk of sustainability through eco-friendly models. Decorations are from recycled material, while refreshments will be in fully decomposable cups and cutlery. Eva Poláčková the Decoled company representative shared her sentiments on sustainability, “These markets are not just about celebrating Easter and spring, but also about promoting environmental awareness and supporting local charities”.
Market visitors will enjoy endless traditional Czech treats and children’s workshop
Visitors to the Easter markets can taste different traditional Czech delicacies. Some Easter specials are the Easter-themed green beer, Czech sausages, and Easter lamb. Besides, traditional handicrafts and souvenirs are up for sale. Proceeds from these activities will go to different charity associations.
There will be workshops held in the Easter markets that will offer children diverse activities. Children can enjoy musical presentations by choirs, folk groups, and more. There will also be outdoor theatre performances and arts-and-crafts-making opportunities to keep kids engaged.
