In a significant development for the travel industry, DAA, the operator of Dublin and Cork airports, has recommended a €31 million shareholder dividend to the State, marking a major milestone in the company’s recovery post-COVID.
The announcement comes as DAA’’s 2023 Annual Report and Accounts revealed a 37% improvement in passenger satisfaction scores at Dublin Airport, signalling a positive shift in the airport experience. Despite challenges such as cost headwinds, debt size, and loss of connectivity, DAA has demonstrated resilience and progress.
With a record-breaking turnover of €1.018 billion, representing a 35% increase from 2022, and a profit after tax and exceptional items of €176 million for 2023, DAA’s financial performance reflects a strong rebound from the impact of the pandemic.
Kenny Jacob, DAA’s CEO, emphasized the company’s commitment to delivering an improved airport experience and driving innovation and sustainability across its operations, signalling positive prospects for travellers in the post-COVID era.
However, concerns were raised regarding the current growth limitations at Dublin Airport due to the terminal cap, leading to a loss of essential connectivity as airlines prioritize growth at hubs outside Ireland.
Despite these challenges, DAA’s remarkable recovery and strategic vision position the company to play a pivotal role in reviving travel and connectivity, fueling optimism for travellers as the industry charts a path toward recovery and growth
