“Czeching In” with a Powerful Passport: Czechia Passport Offers Access to the World
In a remarkable achievement, the Czech Republic has solidified its position as one of the world’s most powerful passports, ranking 7th globally in the latest Henley Passport Index . This prestigious ranking reflects the country’s growing global influence and the ease with which Czech citizens can travel the world.
The Henley Passport Index, compiled by the international immigration consultancy Henley and Partners, evaluates 227 passports based on the number of destinations their holders can access without a visa. In the latest 2024 rankings, the Czech Republic shares the 7th spot with New Zealand and Malta, outperforming powerhouses like the United States, which is ranked 8th.
“The Czech Republic’s rise in the passport rankings is a testament to the country’s diplomatic efforts and strong international relations,” says travel journalist Thomas Smith. “It is a remarkable achievement to be ranked higher than the US, a testament to Czechia’s growing global stature.”
Czechia Passport Offers Access to 187 Countries Without a Visa
The Czech passport now provides visa-free access to a staggering 187 countries around the world, making it one of the most powerful travel documents globally. This means that Czech citizens can explore destinations from Brazil to Japan, the United Kingdom to the United Arab Emirates, without the hassle of obtaining a visa.
A Steady Climb in the Rankings
The Czech Republic’s passport has been on a steady rise in the global rankings over the past decade. In 2014, the Czech passport was ranked 21st but has since climbed into the top 10, reflecting the country’s growing diplomatic ties and international relationships. The only Central European country ranked higher is Poland, which has secured the 5th position.
Planning Your Next Adventure? A Few Visa Notes for Czechs
While Czech passport holders can explore a vast majority of the world visa-free, there are still a handful of countries that require prior authorisation. For destinations like Australia, Vietnam, and Cuba, Czechs will need to obtain a visa (either electronically or physically) before departure. However, visa worries are minimized for popular tourist spots like Jordan, Egypt, and Bahrain, which offer visas upon arrival for Czech travellers.
Looking Beyond Borders
This is not the only positive news for Czech citizens this year. In March, the Nomad Passport Index, another highly regarded ranking system, placed the Czech Republic a remarkable 14th out of 199 nationalities. This index considers not just visa-free travel, but also factors like taxation laws, global perception and personal freedom, highlighting the overall benefits of Czech citizenship.
