Crisis Averted: False Bomb Threat at Paris-Orly Airport Causes Temporary Evacuation
On the evening of August 25th, a bomb threat prompted the temporary evacuation of a portion of Paris-Orly Airport. The incident caused alarm among both passengers and airport personnel as reported by News24Online. An unidentified caller alerted authorities about a bomb allegedly placed in the airport restrooms.
Republic World further reported that as a result, Terminals 2 and 3 at Paris-Orly Airport were evacuated promptly around 6:00 PM local time. In response, specialist bomb disposal teams swiftly conducted a thorough inspection of the affected areas. Le Parisien reported that an anonymous call alerted the police about an explosive device allegedly planted within the airport premises.
Several witnesses at the scene describe the evacuation as being so chaotic. “I’ve never seen an evacuation like this,” a dispatcher expressed this to Le Parisien. “At one point, there was a rush. People were running around the parking lot… The police told them to leave.”
The whole evacuation process led to considerable disruption, with travelers being directed to abandon their belongings and relocate to safer zones outside the airport premises. In just a few minutes social media platforms were filled with videos depicting crowds of people being escorted out of the airport.
However, the authenticity of these videos remains unverified by official sources. By around 7:30 PM, the situation at Paris-Orly Airport had returned to normal. After an extensive search by the bomb disposal teams, no explosive devices were discovered, and the evacuation order was lifted.
Passengers and staff were then permitted to return to the terminals, and normal operations resumed. This bomb threat just comes in a week after an earlier one at the airport. During that incident, the alert grounded a Transavia flight bound for Montpellier, but it turned out to be a false alarm.
The frequent re-occurrence of this incidents have sparked worries. As normalcy returns to Paris-Orly, passengers were reminded to remain alert and follow all security instructions in the event of any future threats.
