While the Festa della Repubblica is one of the major highlights on Sunday, June 2, the free museums will also have a massive attraction. This year’s public holiday will coincide with the famous Domenica al Museo, which allows the free opening of museums in Rome and across Italy to the general public. Therefore, Roman locals, visitors, and tourists alike have another golden opportunity to go to the Roman museums and enjoy the view at zero cost.
The Domenica al Museo comes every first Sunday of the month. This time, the first Sunday of June comes on the same day as the holiday, when Romans are celebrating the day when their country became a republic through a referendum.
The famous museums in Rome’s neighborhoods will open from nine o’clock in the morning until six o’clock in the evening. If you are in Pompeii or near the Colosseum and Etruscan Museum at Villa Giulia, make sure you enjoy these sites for free.
All museums that are run by the city and archaeological sites will be open to the public for free except Gallerie Borghese and Pantheon, which will require early booking.
If you love Roman museums, head to the Ara Pacis, the Capitoline Museums, and sites such as Circus Maximus for a free treat.
